Question about squeeze page

I am learning about building a list. I was wondering about how to use a squeeze page though. Mainly I just want to know if it HAS to be a one page site all on its own or if it can be part of a larger site?

The reason I ask is because I want to build a site for Christians and not just ONLY build a list. So I was wondering if you can put a squeeze page into a larger site and if so would you place a link to it from all of your pages?

    Hi jbearnolimits,

First up, are you using WordPress for your site? If not, I suggest you start because it will make life much easier for you

The best way to do this is to have a dedicated landing page for your blog presenting your email optin offer. But unlike a traditional squeeze page you'll have a few other elements on there like a navigation menu.

Then have a tab in your navigation menu titled blog and set that as your blog feed. You can do that very easily inside of WordPress.

Hope that answers your question. That's how I've got my site set up and it's performing very well.

Yes, it can be a single page on a larger site.

So for example, you could have

yoursite.com, with blog posts, articles, all the normal stuff etc.

Then you would have a URL that would point to your squeeze page, such as:

    yoursite.com/sign-up

If you are using WordPress, it's pretty easy to do. You would create your squeeze page on a Page, the majority of your articles would be under 'posts'.

    Take my site for example:

    My home page: 'http://www.smartincomedetective.com'

    My Blog: 'http://www.smartincomedetective.com/blog'

    A blog post: 'http://www.smartincomedetective.com/spotlight/leadplayer-not-working/'

    My opt in page: 'http://www.smartincomedetective.com/free-ebook'

Notice everything is stripped away from the squeeze page - like the sidebar and logo etc? Ideally this is what you want to do, you want the focus on that email input and whatever you are saying on the squeeze page.

So my opt in page is set as a page, using the permalink option to name it anything I want.

    Hope this helps!

The short answer is "no, it does not only have to be a one page site."

If you check out survivallife.com you can see how they combine a blog with list building (that site is Ryan Deiss' and follows his "authority roi" model ... which is pretty slick).

You can also checkout wallstreetwindow.com which I think follows Mike Long's model (which is also a really great guy to listen to) as another example of someone using a blog combined with list building.

The reason you see so much "simple lead capture page" kinds of recommendations (and I make this recommendation myself) has to do with the fact that it's easier.

The conversion to get someone to a subscriber is not neccessarily better with a simple lead capture page. When you combine blogging with lead capture you give people that may not want to subscribe to your list right then a reason to come back to your site and maybe they subscribe later.

Combining blogging with list building is a very tiny little bit more difficult. If it's what you want to do then I say go for it!

Have you blog, constantly give people a reason to join your list on nearly every page of your site, give good information to people on the list; do not just send one sales message after another like so many IM lists do.

    Hope this helps

    Romeo,

Great information and thank you for showing a good example of it with your website. I had the same question as jbearnolimits but was wondering how to set it up with word press. I got a better understand.

    Thanks.

Thanks guys, one more question...would you recommend linking to the squeeze page from the main site with a link that opens the new page in a window of it's own or just have it like a normal link to it like any other page on the site?

Sure, why not! You could have a blog as the root domain and just have your squeeze page as a different url. Just make sure to add a couple of "no-follow" tags to the page so google jumps over it. Google does not like squeeze pages and if they see a lot you could get thrown in the "sandbox" If you add the "no-follow" tags to the page its not a problem.

I have seen many beautiful and effetive squeeze pages on larger sites
so yes it can be a part of larger site or one page.
It doesnt matter whether your squeeze page is of one page site or on a larger site; the only that which matters is what customers/people/visitors could see in your squeeze page. if people think that they can learn/achieve from your squeeze page, they will optin, no matter whether its a one page site or part of a larged site.
    thanks
