Freebie List vs Buyer List ... how much difference?

How much of a difference is a freebie list compared to a buyer list? In terms of value?

    Night and day.

I'd say 99%+ on your list are tyre kickers, time wasters, freebie seekers.

    1% are serious buyers.

I'd rather have a 200 list of high networth buyers/investors than 100,000 typical "work from home, biz opp. seekers." (who are the pitts to sell anything to.)

I can now understand why some people are classed as snobs. They learned what the mass retail market is really like.

So much different it is not even funny. I have a small list of buyers that is worth ten times monthly then my list of freebies which is ten times bigger.

      Definitely build a buyers list

      Completely agree.

      We're talking about a 70% open rate compared to maybe, a 26%.

(every niche and list is different obviously)

But you can only guess what also happens with the clicks, and sales too

I think you are being generous with the numbers. Most people operating the cold traffic > squeeze page > free bribe method probably struggle to get 5% open rates.

The number that is always banded around was that 10% open rates were considered good in the IM niche and that 20% opens was exceptional.

Though not all non buyers lists are low quality. If you build a list around your blog that has high quality posts and people opt in to get updates / more of the same you'll have high open and click rates without having had to sell them anything up front.

These people are just as engaged with you as any buyers list IME.

Buyer lists are more valuable than freebie lists.

This is because the people on your buyers list have already made a purchase of your product or recommended product. Some people who have already bought from you may buy again and become repeat customers since they know, like and trust you.

People on freebie list are generally just looking for free information - however some may become buyers in the future.

It is always a good idea to have your buyers on a separate list. The people on your buyers list are more likely to purchase higher priced items than say a list of people who have not bought anything from you yet.

    Hope this helps.

The only reason for having a freebie list is to convert them (at some time) to buyers. Until that time they're worth (close to) nothing.

The only real difference is that freebie seekers are afraid of making a purchase for the time being while the buyers are more straight forward.
Both of these "lists" are PEOPLE.
They are worth the same to you.
        Everything.
        The approach is the same.
Give valuable, helpful and useful info to both and you`ll make profit from both.
Everyone was a freebie seeker at first and then something they saw made them feel they can do that just as easily as the marketer claims.
        Nothing else.

I agree 100 percent! I only understood how powerful a 'buyers list' is after releasing my first product...
You know how people say that on average 1 lead from your list will make you 1 dollar per month? Well - this is not true when it comes to -freebie seekers lists' and a 'buyers list' can make you much more than that!
        Cheers

    Hi,

FOCUS ON BUILDING A TARGETED EMAIL LIST!

A list that has the NEEDS that match your offers.

    Simple.

Where do these people hang out?

Go and tell them about your offer(s).

Far easier to convert those leads into buyers rather than trying
to sell a 12 inch PIZZA to someone who has just eaten a 5 course
    meal.

Hope that makes some sense to you and helps you focus on what
    counts when building your lists.

Someone who has purchased from you before (and had a good experience) are much more likely to buy from you again... far more likely than someone yet to buy from you.

My income soared when I focused on building a buyer's list. When I was new, I didn't really get this concept, and as such made no money.

    2 very different avatars.

So to answer your question, a HUGE difference :-)

    "all are equal"?

    Non-sense.

So a broke crackhead from the slums is just as good a lead as a millionaire angel investor?

A freebie list isn't a bad thing to have, provided you can move them along with gateway products. Low barriers to entry, very reasonable, all while still providing the free content they're looking for. Any offer should be seen as a worthy upgrade to the info you're sending.

The difference is HUGE between both of them.
Freebies are useless if they dont convert or if they have no intentions of converting.

Thanks for the reply, guys. So, I guess if I were to choose between setting up a free WSO and a $1 WSO, the latter would be more profitable in the long term?

Certainly the later will be profitable if you are building a list.

Never build a list with offering freebies.

Building a list from those who have buying power will bring good return.
You wouldn't want to build a list of thousands of freebies seekers who wouldn't buy from you in the future. It will be simply a waste of your time, money and efforts.

Building a list of few hundreds of buyers is thousands times better than building a list of millions of freebies seekers.

The difference between a buyers list and freebie list money is proven interest vs potential interest.

But I do have one caveat, I refuse to kick freebies list like some people in this thread have. They still have value, most successful marketers today and in the past started with a freebie list, in most cases it's the gateway to graduating to a buyers list.

Massive difference. I hate having a list of thousands of "freebie subscribers" that just inflate my autoresponder costs. With a buyer's list, you encounter significantly less unsubscribes, and of course.... conversion rates are much higher. Plus they're the best people to sell a high priced item too.

Not much to add, but if someone joins your list in a "buying" frame of mind then you have to put less work into getting them to buy what ever offers you introduce them to further down the line. So it make sense to build a buyers list.

You don't average more than $0.50 a click (EPC) from your buyers list?

That seems a little odd to me. Am I missing something?

People who want to opt in to your site have enough money and drive to buy your stuff.

People who are paid pennies for 50 clicks do not want to opt in to your site and have no money to buy your stuff

Freebie list refer to those persons in your list which you are likely to convert them into buyers but there is quiet a below chance to convert them as buyers !

However , People who are already purchasing product from your list and are likely to purchase more in future is buyer list and i prefer to have a 100 list of potential buyers instead of having a 10k Freebie list as thwy will not likely to purchase things , they just opt in for getting some free goodies

The value in a freebie list comes from the opportunity to convert them to a buyer...

You can also leverage your "freebie" list by doing ad swaps to gain more leads (and in theory more buyers)...

Most folks will start by building a "freebie" list then as they learn more and start creating products they will slowly start to convert those folks into buyers...

A freebie list, while not as powerful as a buyers lists, will still give you some momentum when it comes time to launch your first product.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers,
