The Future Of Online Business

What would you guys say about the future of online business given the amount of free information available out there.

There is popular opinion that most people are searching and making use of free information to do do whatever they wish to do successfully without the need of buying.

I am of course of the opinion that there are a lot of people who are not aware of the availability of some of the free sources of information available, so therefore there will always be a market.

However I have spoken to people who strongly believe online business training won't work because of too much free information which is readily available and thought I may throw it in here to here your take?

People will still buy information because its PERCEIVED value is higher than the value of free information

I think Online business training will always be needed even with all the free training out there. People pay for training when they think they get a lot of value out of it and when the marketer built a strong relationship with the customer before. Also it can be overwhelming with all the training available out there without somebody who is showing them the right direction.

You can put all the information they need in 100 Blog posts on your blog and they still will pay for those information insteed of searching 3 hours for all the information.

I think most people do not search for information. It is a lot more easier to just buy an online training than it is to search for free information. Most people are not able to learn by themselves.

It's all about how we condition our industry. Allot of people hate "Gurus" for promoting hype but what these people don't understand is that it is actually preserving the online money industry.

They're not trying to rip people off, they're trying to make money from it. It is very important to continue doing that. There is nothing wrong with keeping secrets. You just don't want to do it too much. It's basic market control.

We always assume that something expensive is better than something that's cheap or even free. Therefore people will always pay for information, thinking that it will be "better" or easier to comprehend than free information. In most cases this is actually true.

I think one reason why people will buy information that can be had for free, is because they want to save time. Often, it takes a lot of time and research to find out exactly what you want to know or everything you want to know, and just searching for it on the internet does not provide you with the answers right after your very first search.

Depending on what you are searching for, finding out everything you want or need to know, can often takes hours, days or weeks on the internet. Most people don't have that kind of patience and would rather spend some money to get the information they are looking for, and be done with it.

Same reason people by books at a bookstore. They could almost always get the information they want for free if they search long and hard enough, but they would rather just go to Waldenbooks or B. Dalton and buy a book about it.

So what it really amounts to is that a lot of times, people are paying more for convenience, than they are paying for the actual information.

You bring up a good point! However there's always
specialties and knowledge that come only from experience.

Also, training products give the element of speed
so people don't have to waste a lot of time (valuable
more than money) to hopefuly find what they need.

Not to mention a lot of what is circulating out there
      is really misinformation.

People like buying stuff. Think about all the crap that people stuff in their homes that they only use a few times.

Some cause-oriented hackers recently hacked one of my websites. So I researched what they're about and then donated a large sum of money to the entity they hate the most.

The next time they hack one of my websites I'm going to donate DOUBLE.

Nothing is ever free especially online...

If you do see something that appears to be free there is always a reason why it's FREE.

FREE STUFF is kinda like a puzzle.

There are many FREE pieces online. You can probably get enough pieces to complete the puzzle or you can just pay and get the sequence to put it together quickly or you can pay more and have it done for you.

But of course, all of us in here know that millions are made just inside this forum alone, on business training (and a ton of other stuff like software, websites, videos, etc).

People will be buying information and training in just about every area they're interested in, for a long time to come. It isn't just about the information, but having it filtered and made sense of by someone with true expertise. Paying for information is partly paying for the time it takes to do research, sorting the good from the bad, etc, which you could do on your own, but prefer not to.

Internet commerce is a whole lot bigger than something as narrow as business training systems anyway. If that died, it wouldn't put a dent in online transactions as a whole.

I don't think free information availability will stop buyers from buying information.
Some people would not take efforts to do a proper search for the free information available, so they will buy.
Some will even not aware of free information available online and they will buy too.
And some will prefer to buy information rather than getting the free one coz they will see lots of value in the paid info.

I agree that time and convenience are the main reasons people will continue to buy information. But, there are a few other reasons as well.

First, the search engines are no longer as helpful as they used to be. For example, the sheer volume of websites on any given topic compared to the limited spaces for top search results. Few people will go past the first page search results, which means a lot of good content could be missed.

That is what contributes to the time and convenience factor -- not everyone wants to really dig for that free information. Not only that, there is some luck involved as well, depending on which combination of search terms a person uses. You could miss some critical information because you picked the wrong search terms for what you want (how determined are you to find that information?, how many keyword variations do you try? how many link trails do you follow?)

Another reason is because there is so much crap out there. Not only do you have to spend time searching, but you have to be an expert sleuth to figure out if what you're reading is legitimate or not (that happens with paid stuff as well, but free stuff is worse).

Finally, there is no resource, paid or free, that gives you everything you need to know about any given topic. If you are not researching, studying, taking notes, comparing notes, and masterminding with other people -- you are probably wasting a ton of time and consuming a ton of inaccurate and incomplete information.

The good news is, if you are thinking correctly and working correctly, all information can be used to your benefit. You can take the free information and supplement it with the paid information (this is where you fill in a lot of blanks in the information). You can take bad information and expose it, fix it, or file it away as a potential trap to avoid in your own life or business.

It all depends how well you understand your niche and how much effort you are willing to put into your learning efforts. But, paid information will be around for a long time. As long as there are new ideas, new systems, and new technologies, there will be a need for well organized, high-level content.

Not everyone knows that most of the info that they seek is free. They go to a website and because they want a solution to their problem right there and then, they are willing to pay for it and are not willing to go the extra mile, sometimes hours, to look for the same info for free.

I'm sure you know that word of mouth is crucial when starting a business. You have to make a name for youself through marketing. Whether its online, snail mail, or in person people have to know what you offer and how you can help them. Internet marketing really works great if you're dedicated. Here's some information about that.

    good luck
