How many times should we be posting to our blogs?

Hey everyone, I recently added a blog to my site and am very excited about it. I did some testing by not posting for a few days, then adding a post to see what would happen.

And it seems to be increasing my traffic. ( I am using jeff johnsons SEO blog)

But I have a question, how often should I post to my blog for the maximum impact.

The only reason I ask is because I am having a VERY hard time thinking up new topics to write about! My niche is a non-article friendly niche (there is nothing to write about!).

I wanted to write out enough posts for 30 days, but I am at about 15 so I am thinking I can post it every other day so i have 30 days worth.

Do you think every other day is good enough?

Thanks
Ashley

    Hey Ashley,

What is your niche? I may can through some topics or ideas your way.

It is best to do as many articles on that topic or related topic as often as possible. More content= more results.

      I agree. What's the topic.

Also - another question I have is why would you take on a niche that can dry up so fast?

You should post something everyday if you can.
Ping it , bookmark it , blog roll it, rss feed it.

My opinion: Post every 2 days or every 3 days. You do not want your blog to be seen as a spam blog.

And if you're having a hard time thinking up new topics, you can use plr materials. That obviously depends on your niche.

    Hope this helps.

I would find some way to put together 3 posts/week.

Remember that videos and pics posted can count towards this post count...

  • Post when you have something relevant and meaningful to say. Otherwise you are not making good use of your time. You don't post just to be posting.

I think 3 to 4 posts a day would be fine. Well it really depends on your niche. Make your posts informative. Don't just blog nonsensical stuff. It'll do more harm than good obviously.

    Hello Ashley,

I don't know where some of the numbers come from, but I work closely with two great bloggers, Pat Marcello (SEO expert for Tellman Knudson), and Alvin Phang (get's over 5,000 visitors a day to his blog), and they both say 1 time a day is fine!.

I agree. If you set up your blog, in its own domain with a niche relevant domain name and a title matching the domain name - or - containing a significant keyword for your niche - and - you keep your writing focused around 3 to 5 keywords, you will quickly be loved by search engines and (assuming you put up good content) loved by your readers.

    My best to you

I just try to stay consistent with my blog. I found that I just couldn't keep up with posting everyday, so I'm at an every other day pattern.

      Just be consistent.

        Thanks for the replies

From what you all told me, it seems that it just kinda depends!

I thought there might be some magic number I was missing

It isn't really that the niche is bad, I kinda exaggerated when I said i had nothing to write about. Really it is that I got writers block. I think that if I can get a months worth of blog posts on automatic I know I can think up more, but sitting here trying to do them all at once, well I couldnt think of any more!

I like the idea of doing 3-4 per week, so basically one every other day. And yes they are all well thought out posts, not just garble. I don't know much about keyword density and the like, but I just try to include the keywords in them, how much? I don't know, whatever I feel like

        Anyways thanks for the help!

Quick response - my perspective -

Post about twice a week ...

For me, before the weekend - when people would benefit from my ideas about surviving the wilderness adventure ...

Sometimes it's about timing ... not necesarily frequency ... for some niches ))smiles

    Cheers, Steve

  • As you can see there is no magic answer!

I would suggest at least every other day - that way you get into a pattern.

I try to post once a day but it doesn't always happen and I too get writers block some days and so I just take a few days off from that blog when that happens. Obviously the more you post the better but not too often to look like spam. Once a day seems to work well for me.

What's your objective with the blog? To make money or to socialize?

If you're socializing, aka not planning on making money with your blog, then you need to post often, at least 2-3 times a week and build a readership who won't click your ads.

If your goal is to make money by attracting keyword targeted buying search traffic then you only need to post enough cover your keywords and related long tails then do supporting link building. When done right, you can not post for years and still get considerable traffic.

One search engine based money making technique that does require frequent posting is following trends like the hottest celebrity gossip. The idea there is to provide Google and readers with new info that takes advantage of Google's 'Query Deserves Freshness' algorithm.

At the beginning I try to post every day till I see Google spidering me everyday which takes me about two weeks.

Once that happens you can ease off a bit and your posts should be up there within the day.

So here is one I posted this morning and it is already in google.

You can also post topics to other things in your niche as it gives you credibility. Obviously not your competition but good content.

a niche where there is nothing to write about? so the product you are selling have nothing to say? the people in that industry don't talk about it? Sound funny and a little hard to believe.

I'd be really interested to know and can give you some ideas if you PM me. I had trouble finding what to write about before but there's always a way

I'd say it depends on the topic, your interest amongst other factors.

For an example, a blog on technology may get 5-6 posts a day while a blog on Internet Marketing may get one a day.

Personally, I find a couple posts a week a very good rate.

How many posts should you post to your blog really depends on several factors, something like a general number of blog posts for any niche that brings in the most traffic just doesn't exist.

You need to check you traffic stats on a regular basis and decide how often it is best to make posts on your blog, depending on how traffic and sales vary when you make a post and when you don't make one. If your niche doesn't have much stuff to write about on a regular basis, maybe you should be concentrating more on establishing the posts you do make, in the search engines.

Build link popularity to your posts so that they rise in the SE rankings thusp bringing you traffic on a regular basis, thus allowing you to write only a few but extremely profitable posts in a months time.

I think anything from a couple of posts per week is enough. My blog is relatively new and I'm hoping to post maybe every 2 - 4 days. There's no point in posting crap so just post when you have something decent to write about.

That really depends on what you want to do. Blogs are one of the best ways to get good quality organic links but for that to happen, you need to get out there and connect with other bloggers. You need to create relationships and write good quality content. One good way to quickly grow a blog readership is to get people into your newsletter and then plug your blog posts via email.

Now if you only care about the mechanic approach to SEO/blogging the most important thing is not so much what you get on your blog and when to post but rather how good you are creating links from other sites to your blog.

I recommend the first approach as it slowly builds your brand over time.

Thanks again for all the posts! I really stirred up a hot topic

Yh to all of you who are saying that it is a strange niche, its not really that, its just that I not really a creative writer, so I have trouble writing about very small parts of a niche.

I wrote out 15 blog posts that were essentially chapters of my ebook! I couldnt figure out how to trim the content down while still giving some tips.

But I went back over them and really worked at it, i figured out how to write in a way that gives the reader something, but without just posting 100% my ebook materials.

So thanks for all the help.

Digital Archives: Yes his plug in is fantastic, although I cant compare because I have never used anything else, I never even had a blog before putting his plugin in!

Over the last 18 months I have slowly worked on a very niche blog. In fact, it is the one in my signature. This blog is very niche and has a hard time link building due to the nature of the niche.

I started out with and continue to use a very bland, free design. I currently have a total of 105 posts which equates to approximately 6 posts per month. This is not correct of course. Some months I have posted 15 times and others not at all.

My blog currently has an Alexa Ranking of around 72,500 and I receive approximately 400+ unique visitors per day. Over 5000 per month.

I make around $3000 per month with the blog through Affiliate Commissions.

The point is that targeted content is more important than posting a lot. Yes, with more posts you might get more visits. Getting targeted visitors is more important than getting a mass of visitors who do not care about your content.

Last 3 months I'm develop a new blog, quite famous niche and really competitive one.

As mention by mick535, targeted visitor is 100% important more than build up a lot of contents. What I'm doing is just the same as mick535, I'm just update my blog twice per week since sometimes I got no idea on writing a good and targeted content. But the main point is for a new blog, fresh information and regular update is compulsory.
