1K List in a Month - Still a Newbie! :)

I am relatively new to list building so I was pleased to be able to build my new IM list with methods learnt on the Warrior Forum! Thank you Warriors.

Being aware that I'm not breaking any records here, I am proud of the effort as my subscribers are all targeted and the list was built the right way, no dodgy methods. And sales are starting to mount up too. Life is good!

Any tips for beginner list builders? Your experiences?

Nice work man. This is exactly what I'm trying to learn at the moment - any tips on good resources I can find to use as reference?

Well done though, I guess just keep scaling it up as best you can

Thanks Alexander! Most of the resources I used have been from this forum actually. I learnt a lot of really good info in the War Room. And I found some of the best solo ad providers in the business from WSO's by the list building experts!

My social media networks were already well established too. Twitter follower numbers had been pushing 90K and I had a good platform to share my venture. Email signatures have helped too. Cheers.

    Get personal with your list

It's one of the easiest ways to stick out from the pack when it comes to email marketing

Eventually it won't even matter what your subject line is because they will just look for your name in the from section.

Don't be too pushy with your list.
People who force their list to buy and buy lose most of their subscribers.
I deal my list with respect and trust me it works very well.

I had a celebrity connection to a couple of my accounts. The name 'pulled'. The other Twitter page, for Work From Home, had great design and regular, targeted #hashtagged tweeting.

      Cheers.

My short term advice is to get those subs on a webinar hosted by you.

Teach them something awesome - and have some sort of no-brainer offer at the end of it.

You will look like a hero for teaching them something they didn't yet know, and you'll make sales for the great instruction.

    Another quick win-win.

Great Stuff! The key is really to build a targeted list if you want to make it profitable. As has been said many times before, provide value to your subscribers and they will actually want to buy from you. Anyway, congrats and keep up the great work!

No idea what niche your in or what business model you're running (if any), but my biggest piece of advice is to always think of your 1000 subscribers like an audience sitting in front of you listening to you and watching you.

It's easy to eventually see them as numbers and stats, but the more you do that, the less of a sustainable asset your list will become. It's one of the most powerful tools to gain momentum in this business, which is incredibly important to scale your business...so just treat them like you'd treat a group of 1000 folks sitting in front of you in an auditorium.

    Good luck!

    Congrats

    The only real questions are
    - how much did you have to spend
    - how much free traffic are you getting and
    - how long has it been since you've started.

List building is cool but a majority of the time you usually have to keep pumping money into it....if you don't have a blog or some other kind of resource.

I admit that I did spend money to purchase some solo ads. Profits from sales have been reinvested back in to list building. However, my own efforts in creating free traffic networks is where the consistent traffic flow is now building. Facebook, Twitter, email signatures, forum marketing, articles and press releases have all assisted in traffic generation. YouTube submissions have also attracted visitors.

I'm going for a holistic approach to my traffic building. And may add media buying in to the mix when I have sharpened my paid traffic techniques.

Thank you Everyone for your messages and postings. Greatly appreciated!

I am now GENTLE with my list with soft mentions of my product on an endnote by the bottom as a BTW type deal on odd days. So I doubt I would lose very many subscribers. If you sell solos and mail them to your list, I say to send a solo only once every day to 2 days, leaving a day in between these mailings.

      Thanks Devonm,

Some marketers recommend that 'selling' emails should be sent interspersed with quality free info. types of messages. And that you should never apologise or be shy about the selling part. Emphasise the major benefits to buyers' lives, keep the quality high, include sincere, well-worded testimonials. Be proud of your products and display them openly I say! If you are genuine and eager to help others with their problems, selling needn't ever be 'pushy'.

Thanks Mrgoe. When it comes to an email series to a list, I certainly agree with you in offering quality free info and offers but I don't think you have to 'presell' for too long before you begin the selling phase. It's all about relevancy and what products are well targeted to a particular list.

It surprises me how many IM'ers seem to be reluctant to try and sell. Fearing unsubscribers, coming across as being too 'pushy' etc. I know of one world famous, top level marketer (name withheld) who sends me up to 6 sales emails per day. And he certainly isn't poor financially, from losing customers!

If you don't sell to your list, what was the point in building it?

God hoping that you aren't spamming, this is a FEAT that I wish I knew how to do. I don't know what you done, but, barring SPAMming, this is GOOD. MY wet dream in fact. Good on you if you weren't spamming. I can't wait to have enough to actually actively hope to get a sale, which I suppressed that hope and placed it on the back burner as my list is a seedling right now of only 5 of us at this writing.

Not spamming with my lists. But I do introduce products for sale in my emails at a reasonable frequency. The people who unsubscribe because they don't like my selling methods were probably never going to purchase anyway! I never try to please everyone; all you can do is offer good quality and wave goodbye to anyone who doesn't appreciate your emailing style.

If you are NOT Spamming to get signups and whatnot, you are doing a DAMN GREAT job. I don't know what your secret is, if it is solo ads you buy, I would be less surprised, but if it is a free option, I would love to know that one or what have you.

Additionally since you aren't SPAMming, you can add a WIIFM, or What's In It For Me list of benefits above the signup form to your list, if you don't know this already. This will really rev it up. You always have to use the WIIFM formula on squeeze pages and above the signup form for your list to help the person figure out if this is the right solution that they need.

I just learned this not too long ago tonight and should surely expect to see a rise in signups. Do you see why signups seemed abysmal until likely very soon for me? Small wonder.

      Thanks Devonm,

I have been purchasing some solo ads, but I only concentrate on premium quality sellers. My free methods that are attracting traffic include social media marketing, email signatures, forum marketing and the like.

      Thank you Talfighel,

My traffic generation systems seem to be kicking in to autopilot mode now. Signups are happening on a regular basis, without me having to do much at all. Long may it last!
Of course, I plan to put in a lot more effort but it is great when a system takes on a life of its own.

    Congrats!

After farting around for years I've finally started my list. Good responses so far and I've not promoted it yet. What's cool is that Facebook friends are sharing my newsletter link around. There are umpteen people around the world who would love to make money at home but have no idea how to do it.

On top of that they want someone they can trust.

As one marketer said to me, "Your list is your life!".

One of my Marine Corps pals who is an IMer said:

"This is my list. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My list is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My list, without me, is useless. Without my list, I am useless. I must treat my list true. I must be smarter than my competition who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...
My list and I know that what counts in this war is not the ads we post, the noise of our videos, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the sales that count.
My list is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its scripting language. I will keep my list clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God, I swear this creed. My list and I are the defenders of my business. We are the masters of our destiny. We are the saviors of my life.

Yeah I think one of the best ways to build a list is thru Solo Ads from a reputable seller of course.

And when building the list talk to these people as if you are talking to a long time friend. Use a laid back conversationalist tone.

Do not be afraid to put a little personality in your emails to your List. And having some opinions and ruffling some feathers can establish your online presence and keep people engaged.

The biggest secret to great marketing, list building etc, is that there are really no secrets! You need to be organised and focused. Have a plan. Write down your goals. Have a great squeeze page that attracts signups. Tweak your system until it works really well. Test everything. Retest everything.

Pinpoint which of your traffic generation methods is working the best and scale up. Persist in your trials. Get advice from IM experts who have recognised track records of proven success. Put in consistent, regular effort.

And if all else fails, take a day off, relax, reassess then start again with a different approach. Be positive! And drink lots of coffee ...

      Best of luck!
