Copy content from others sites with url source is "ilegal"?

Sounds a stupid question, I know... We all learned that to rank well on google results if we have a blog we should write useful and unique content and never copy it from others.

However I was thinking: if I have a website and I "copy" the content from other websites and I put the original URL source, is it allowed?

Or if I own a website in the "digg.com" style with just a summary of the post and point it to the original topic, it is not illegal, right?

This has been asked many times before, anyway:

I would say NO it's not good enough to place a link back to the original unless the owner has given you his/her permission...

Once again i would say NO.
Remember those "summary 's" etc are placed on Digg by the content owners either for exposure or a link back....

No. You need permission from the copyright holder to use someone else's content. You're asking for legal trouble if you do this.

Of course copying content of others is not a thing that I'll do. But I got curious seeing some people taking some stories/blogs from other and making some changes and it's "all fine".

Some people "take" some stories/blogs from others because they have permission. Maybe they subscribe to that individual's news feed. That gives them the right to display the content. Maybe they're syndicating various articles or posts. That means they've gotten permission in advance.

Assuming you can take something without asking and simply credit the creator of that thing is one of the oldest and silliest myths of the Internet. I'm still baffled as to where this stuff comes from.

Many of those sites pay to syndicate the content from other sites. For example, you can pay Reuters a fee that will give you permission to put their stories on your website.

And just because other websites get away with doing it illegally, doesn't mean you should. That'll be no defense if you find yourself in legal trouble (and if you do it long enough, it will catch up with you). Your web hosting can cancel your account and you can find yourself in court. Is it worth it?

As a content creator myself, if I found someone doing that I will pursue it pretty aggressively. I spend a lot of time, and in some cases do a lot of research to write my content. So I'm going to protect it.

Write something original. Put some effort into it. If you don't have the time to write your own content, you can pay someone to write it for you.

No, it's stealing, unless you get permission from each copyright owner.

    Think about it:

If you spent several hours or more researching and writing an article or creating any other kind of content, how would you feel is someone just ripped it off to use it on their site to get traffic?

Is it really that hard to understand?
