Blog Posts or Static Pages?

Hello all,

I am in the process of developing my first website, which will be a a sub niche in in education.

My question is, what is better in terms of ease of navigation, SEO optimization, and posting content: blog posts or static pages?

Which do you think is better for my niche? I have around 20 core topics that I want to explain and do videos on. Other information will be advice, tips for studying etc.

Thanks for any information.

  • I'm starting a new site too, and I'm using something of a combination. I am looking at having a static home page, with 5 or 6 other static pages for the main topics. Then have posts for each individual article. So far I think it will work out nicely, but it is still too early on to know for sure.

    hope that helps.

    Hi Anthony,

    Welcome to the forum.

Given your requirements I would have no hesitation in recommending a Wordpress.org blog.

When you set up a blog, each blog post is treated by Google as an individual page, albeit with a date stamp. Google will have an expectation that you will continue to write blog posts on a frequent basis or with the same frequency that you set when you run your blog. And Google prefers frequent updates. Each blog post is an opportunity to have the post appear in the SERPs and draw traffic; however, 1/3 of Google's SEO algorithm is based on gaining backlinks, and approx another 1/3 on social media signals. What Michael Levanduski wrote is a wise approach to running a blog /static site hybrid site. This would be my recommendation to make your SEO task much simpler and gaining more organic traffic.

Congrats Anthony on getting your first website/blog set up. Darlanne makes a good point as to how Google looks at everything.

I think the bottom line is having content people are interested in.

I see/hear/read so much about the different techniques to get ranked and within a few weeks/months they are obsolete.

Getting traffic to your site through interest (and that can be done multiple ways) is they way to go.
