Let's develop a Web Application together

Hi all,

I am a Computer Science student who is currently in his final year.
As a graduation project I have decided to research how a web application could support sellers to sell their products on eCommerce platforms (Amazon, eBay, Gumtree etc.).

Based on this research I will create an open source web application completely based on your input.

Currently I have the following idea's (these features can be changed and new features can be added):
Multi-channel, placing and managing products on multiple eCommerce platforms simultaneously.
Synchronisation, uploading existing products from a webshop into eCommerce platforms (this feature will support Magento, Opencart, Wordpress etc.).
CSF's, the seller can set critical performance indicators of the product and specify what should happen when a CSF is exceeded.
For example: the seller can specify if a product has not been sold after a week that the price should automatically drop by 10%.
Competition insight, getting related product information from the competition (average, lowest, highest price, time to deliver etc.).
Datamining, based on available data and algorithms it is possible to determine how much time it will take for a product to be sold with a certain price.

I have the technical knowledge to complete a web application like this, but what I lack is knowledge of the market and marketing in general.

What I need from you during the development of this web application is information, a lot of information.
I need to know how you sell your products, what platforms/channels you use, what can be improved, what kind of features you need etc.

In return I will share my progress with you and develop an open source web application based on your needs and idea's.

For now I only have the following questions:
  • Could you need a web application which includes the above mentioned features?
  • Do you use any web applications like this? If yes which ones? If no why not?
  • What kind of web application/features could help you in selling your products?

My ultimate goal is to create an open source user friendly web application completely based on the input from its users (you).

Your post would fit better in the Warrior Joint Ventures forum.

I think for a project like this, you need to contact MANY ecommerce sellers and get their opinions.

One person helping you craft it, you'll get that one person's view on improving it.

Having 50 or 100 people, you'll learn more about what the market demands, and less of one person's opinion.

I'd create a Signature for yourself here on the warrior forum, enticing ecommerce sellers to PM you for a chance to beta test your ecommerce software.

Then you can start taking part in the Ecommerce section of the warrior forum too. That's where those people are all hanging out.

Then when people connect with you (and you connect with them) you can let them know what you're doing, maybe create a survey and go from there.

Good luck with your project, it sounds like fun.
