Your tips and tricks to get a very responsive list

Hi there,

I'm still new to list building and I've learned a lot since I started, but I'd like to know your personal tips and tricks to increase the quality of your subscribers.

I really want to do it right for the first time. I've heard about "sandwich content pages" where you give content right after the visitor subscribes.

What do you think about this technique? Do you have some results to share?

Thanks a lot!

The only way I know to increase the quality of my subscribers is to target my traffic generation to the quality leads.

SEO and social media are the easiest way to laser target people and build relationships with them in order ot create responsiveness.

    Hope this helps

Not sure about the "sandwich content" thing. Haven't heard of it.

What I do know is that your subscribers will be x100 more responsive if you've built up a relationship and trust with them BEFORE you ask them to opt in.

If you're trying to build up that relationship AFTERWARDS it's often too late because you'll struggle to build a relationship with someone who doesn't open your emails or can't remember who you are and why you are emailing them.

To build a relationship before hand you need to be sending your subscribers to a content rich site / blog / content funnel / giving them something BEFORE asking for their email.

The traffic to squeeze page to enter email for a freebie is ineffective at building a relationship. You get high opt ins but opens and clicks are low as most people just wanted your freebie.

Great! I'm happy to hear that because I really believe in "not giving a free gift" to get more qualified leads, it totally makes sense to me.

However, I don't see much people promoting this technique. Maybe it's a new way of doing that is not popular at the moment.

So, I'm glad to meet someone else who is thinking as I am.

It's not new but people on WF seem in love with the squeeze page and freebie method yet we constantly have posts about how it's not working and no one is opening emails....

    Simply be yourself.

Share what's going on in your life, update useful product ideas/resources, etc.etc.etc.

Don't just be SamMarketer - be "that man/woman who loves dogs, deals with health issues, gets to the gym every day, is passionate about chess and oh yes, teaches me how to sell on Kindle as well."

    Personality shines.

I had a hard time also with building a list.

What helped me was learning that "you wont do it right for the first time"...

No matter what you create chances are your first attempt is going to suck.

Squeeze pages and list building is all about testing and tweaking.

First you have to get it going and then see results, test some things, and then tweak for best results.

I would not overthink it just get it out there.

With out a doubt, you won't do it right until you get out there, do it, and see what works for you.

Buyers lists work the best--which means that someone who bought from you, and liked your product is more likely to buy more things from you. Move those people to a list of their own, and take good care of them.

Always, always provide useful content in your message--everyone can tell if you are only pitching them with every email.

Google changed its email policies, and people are getting tired of the opt-in to get something tactics. Open rates just aren't what they used to be, but people like Connie Ragen Green get phenomenal open rates. Connie sends lots of emails that include a lot of personal things. She has a way of making her subscribers her friends. If you are looking for an inexpensive course, she has a Kindle book that she regularly sells for $2.99 , "Huge Profits with a Tiny List." It is well worth the cost.

      Hope that helps.

With so many lists out there in the work at home niche, just know that your subscribers are on other people's list too.

So you need to give them value and show them that you care.

Also, the secret these days to a successful email marketing business is to have new and fresh leads every single day. You need to get to the point of having 30-50 and more per day to keep things going and making new sales.

I may be a little off here, but I am a follower of the idea of giving them something for free, always. Your subscriber needs something to feel aligned with you. The content you provide will have to be good if your using it to get subscribers.

Funny how you happen to mention that...

But one of my best tips is to get personal with your subs.

Be like Oprah, transparent and raw as hell.

Probably one of the easiest ways to build trust and make sales.

Never heard of that specific name, but you are always giving away content...

For me, it just happens to be in the form of entertainment wrapped up with offers that my list likes.

Besides the tip I mentioned above, I recommend sending out daily.

This is what I do as well, and the results are pretty darn good...

    Thanks for asking

Thanks for your comments and thoughts up to now!

I must admit that I might overthink and that's my big default. I've make some test with an affiliate program, but I didn't like the way people got on my list without any clue of who I was. Also, with affiliate programs, you don't have the flexibility of testing and tweaking your sales funnel, build a buyers list, etc.

So, right now I'm working to create my product to build my own funnel and build a buyers list.

About the "not giving free gift" thing, I agree that I didn't explain it quite right. Instead, I must say that I believe in not announcing your free gift in your squeeze page but giving them on the back end. This way you get a quality lead that is satisfied because you provided him content.

well to create a responsive list is important to create a avatar of your ideal customer you can picture a image of that person you are targeting.His/Her Age,What they do what problems this person face on a daily basis stuff like that the more specific you can be when you start to target this people is going to be easier for you to build a relation with this people because you are going to know how to communicate with them. Also the best traffic sources to find one of these avatar's is FB ads because the more specific you are creating your audience the more response you will get for your ad Hope This Helps.

    1) This is often overlooked but you should use a name and picture on the squeeze page. Then your name and picture again on the 'thank you' page. Then your name in the email "from" address and place your picture on the bottom of the email. People will respond to people they 'know' and it creates some level of transparency. (also see Barb's comments on personality)

    2) Never use "free" in the subject line of emails as this will condition people on your list to only open freebie offers and ignore your other emails. If something is free mention that in the body of your email after the first sentence/paragraph. (personally, I think you should avoid sending out straight freebie offers as it's a waste of a mailing, always promote something even if it's on the bottom)

    3) Mail them right away and keep mailing. I see a lot of people that don't mail for weeks on end or maybe only once a week. The less you're in their inbox, the more likely they are to forget about you.

    4) Remail unopens. This is an easy source of additional income since your earlier email could have been deleted by a mass email clean out, ignored, or may have never been delivered. Typically, I'll see 20% more sales by doing this (this is a fairly accurate estimate).

    5) Remail your entire list. If you email unopens 7-8 hours after your initial email, remail your entire list no more than 24 hours later if the promotion is generating good results. When you're on something hot, keep pushing.

    6) Never use the name of the product you're promoting. Some marketers may think it's not that big of a deal to do this, but people can easily Google the product name instead of clicking on your link and cost you a sale since your cookie was never set. (An exception can be made if you're offering a bonus on a competitive launch)

    7) Create a header image for your emails. This will help you set yourself apart. I avoid sending plain text emails since now the vast, vast majority of browsers/email clients now support HTML.

    8) Tell people what you want them to do. You need to provide strong direction and a strong call-to-action. Stress any type of scarcity you can. i.e. If an offer is only open for 7 days, on day 1 tell them to get in early, on day 6, this closes in 24 hours. In a launch cycle, the majority of sales will come in the very beginning and at the very end.

    9) Don't peddle garbage. Mail hard for the products you believe in and not for just anything that comes along. Of course, your opinion can differ from someone else's, but you can have a clean conscience and sleep well at night knowing you believe in what you mail and not just chasing money.

    10) Promote continuity several times per month. Find a monthly membership program you believe in and mail for it a few times a month. This will stretch out your income between launches.

Of course there's more you can do (), but do this stuff and you will have a responsive list that makes money.

As Mark hinted at, be consistent in your marketing routine and focus on giving them advice, news, offers and gifts that help them, its all about them and their profits first, your profits come second.

My little trick is to initially build relationships with my subscribers long before they ever subscribe. This is accomplished through regular contributions of articles to publications in which targeted prospects read.

After reading my articles over a period of time, they will gravitate over to a relevant niche website and buy the "recommended" product. In my marketing model, nothing is ever blatantly "sold"; only recommended on the strength of credentials perceived as a result of my article writing.

The optin form is for buyers only, as they must enter the transaction ID# to complete the subscription process. This effectively filters out free loaders, although admittedly it may also eliminate an inestimable percentage of potential "eventual" buyers. It is designed primarily to quickly target and qualify proven buyers for higher conversions and repeat sales.

Subscribers receive messages on a daily basis which includes niche information, tips, resources, jokes, and increasingly hard hitting promotions (with 2-3 descriptive, feature-laden text links) for the next product in line. Non-buyers are culled from lists every 90 days. The remaining active buyers continue to be processed, and promotions are incrementally increased to higher end products.

As the relationships build through a series of satisfactory transactions, email is discontinued while other communication channels may be added such as social media, telephone, direct mail, webinars, local seminars and even face-to-face sales.

This may seem at first like a "meat grinder" approach, but it is very effective in targeting responsive buyers and directly engaging quality prospects who are already further down the buying path within their own buying process.

Building relationship and trust is the most important aspect here.

Rather than a free gift why not give a bonus in return for them doing something like filling in a quick survey for example?

anytime i advertise i explicitly say that the product will cost them money, then follow up with awesome value and bonus. this brings only potential buyers to my pages, then i overdeliver. sure i may get less optins over time, but my lists end up being very responsive, and by nature, willing to purchase offers.

I learned a few years back a strategy I use ever since and it's paid off big time. I give Content-Content-Pitch_Content. It is one of the best strategy I`ve used along with a few more. You give content and then in the P.S. section of your email you say "if you like this there is a whole lot more in my >>>>>> product and then your link" that's it.
When you get to the pitch part you say "A one time offer just for today some good discount + a bonus don`t miss out and then your link, you ofc describe the bonus a little, and again in the P.S. section the same thing"
    That's the whole philosophy.
I have a guide written on this subject i'll share it with you here for free.
