Can I create this app myself or do I need an app developer?

I have an idea for an app that I want created. But, I've never created an app before. I know what I want it to do, but I don't know if it is something I can do myself or not. I know there are things like appmakr that allow anybody to create an app. But, can things like that create the kind of app that I want?

I'm going to share what I want the app to do because somebody's probably going to ask me anyway. Here's what I want my app to be able to do:

I want the free version to:

1. have the option to automatically start when their computer boots up.

2. have the options of either showing a new message everyday or the user can tell it when they are ready for the next message if they want to go at their own pace.

3. have a reminder thingy that they can set that will make a noise every hour, or whenever they want it to. And at the same time show a brief message along with the reminder noise. I want them to be able to choose what noise they want it to make - several sound options and the option to add their own wav. sound file.

4. I want it to have a journal where the user can keep track of what's going on with them. I want the journal to automatically insert the date in the upper right corner of each journal page if they want it to. And I want the journal to look like a real journal in that you can flip from page to page. And be able to change fonts to something that looks more like handwriting if you so wish.

5. I want the program to allow the users to send messages back to me or my email associated with my website.

6. I want a video to play when they first start the app. The video will show them how the app works. They will have the options to check "don't show me this video again".

That's all I got so far. The paid version will have a daily video that will go along with the daily message. And there might be some other videos within the app also.

Is this something I can do myself with one of those app makers or do I need to find an app developer?

I don't have any knowledge about making apps. I was hoping someone who does could tell me weather it was possible for me to do it myself with one of the app making tools out there. If it's not possible then I'll go to an app developer. But, I didn't want to waste a bunch of time messing around with such tools trying to figure it out if it can't even be done.

To tell you the true, to build an apps by yourself will be needing a lot of time, I really mean...A LOT OF TIME.

So, hire a developer will be your ONLY choice now. Stop going around the brushes and think that you can do it by your own. Because you cant, and if you can, you gonna need a lot of time.

The answer is...Yes, hire a developer. No offence.

No offence taken. That's what I wanted to know - if it was something I could easily do myself or not. Thank you.

I just thought that with all these app creating services like appmakr that it might be easily doable myself. After all, these services are suppose to make the process of creating an app so easy that anyone can do it. But I didn't know if they would work for what I wanted to do.

Where can I go to find an app developer that can give me a quote on how much this will cost me?

Apps creator who are free, most of them are limited to complex option, and if you upgrade or buy their commercial apps, you will need to go through theirs course, module and so to learn the use of it, after that you have to spend a lot of time to developp your apps....so Finally it's time consuming and not sure if you do it right are need help at the end.

I try to play with mob apps before with free version, they are limited and time consuming...so I thing the best to do is to hire a developper for your project, in this way you get it fast and professionally done

    Hi -

Generally, tools like Appmakr are good for brochure style apps ... apps that are basically displaying information and/or aggregating information from multiple data sources. Your app, as described, will require more functionality. Especially your custom graphics requirements like flipping through pages etc.

You would also need to go deeper in your app specification before approaching a developer. For example. things you will need to consider:

    1. Are all the messages going to be stored somewhere on a server and then remotely retrieved by the app, or is everything going to be embedded locally in the app? If a server, you need to factor in the cost of the server side code or utililzation of a Back End As A Service platform.

    2. If you are providing an admin console where you need to go add a new message of the day?

    3. Are the journal entries stored locally or on a server?

This just as an example, but hopefully you will see that this can quickly spiral into something more complex and well beyond the scope of a online app builder tool.

Lastly, don't forget to factor in graphics costs. Things as simple as your app icon can have a huge affect on downloads of the app.

    Good luck!
