Email list of 200k targeted customers

Hi

Im launching a physical product soon in the fitness industry. So at my gym we have access to all the customers e-mails and its about 200k.

Its a well known gym (Not US) and i wonder if i can take these mails and sell my fitness product to these people?

Its going to be a online store where they can order my product.

What do you guys think?

You have to think about this, when these 200 thousand people gave the gym their email address - exactly why did they do this? what information do all these people expect to receive in their emails from the gym?

If these people are not expecting product promotions - it could create problems.

You may have to get permission from these people to get them on to a separate list where you promote the fitness product - by giving them a reason why they should opt in such as giving away a sample of your fitness product for free, special discount or trial.

If I were a member of a gym and they released my email to someone to sell me stuff without my permission, I would quit the gym. Did they agree to be "sold" or given to third parties when they gave the gym their email address?

yea youre right. But the email i got is redefined by age, and by "allowing to be mailed" category.

Also think about it, every month i get different email from people or websites that is selling random stuff. it can be all from fitness products to irrelevant things that does not have to do with my interests. I some cases i read it if it sounds interesting(fitness related mails) and for me it isnt hard to just delete rather then go trough the whole process to complain about what im recieving in my mailbox.

Also i bet that every of us that have a mail account is getting mails from different companies and persons that have nothing to do with us. Some cases it bothers me and i delete it or ill read it and see what it has to give me.

Well then, what do you need our advice for? Sounds like you've already made up your mind to mail them. I'd like to know what kind of gym gives other people access to their email system, or is there more to the story? How do you have access to a business email system?

EDIT: Unsure if original poster is 100% ethical (or even legal).

Being a paid employee of a business does not give you the right to their email systems for your own personal use, unless the company has given you permission. Have they?
