Hosting Promotions - 50% off first invoice or 50% off for life?

I want to get hosting and I see that the promotional offers for Stablehost include either 50% off the first invoice or 50% off for life if you sign up for 12 months. I would prefer to sign up for 6 months rather than 12 - I am just starting out. Please advise which is more suitable for me - I would prefer just 50% off the first invoice for just 6 months, but worry about missing the lifelong discount and ending up paying more - if I renew after 6 months will I likely be able to find a similar coupon that I could use?

    I have one of my accounts at SH for 3 years now with no problems.
    They are one of the lesser known hosts but support is good and they don't seem to overload their shared servers.

    Go with the 50% recurring discount as you can still cancel at anytime if it does not suit you...
