List building & monetization

Hi i'm growing an email list via popups and such on a general health niche website with a growing reader base.

I'm currently getting only a fraction of a % of my visitors signing up for just general health tips but i don't even have a newsletters written. So i guess my questions are

1) What should I be shooting for as far as % of visitors signups for my newsletter?
2) since i do have 2-4 people signing up daily with a list of about 40 so far should i just use a PLR newsletter? if yes are there any recs for general health PLR newsletters i could use that would be ready to monetize?

Thanks for any help

I think you should target more specific niches than the whole Health Market, So when you're trying to promote a product to your list, you'll know what product will convert well.

First, just like Lifbali stated, you need to define your target market much better. Figure out what you really want to do, then craft your advertising message around that and more narrowly define where you advertise. "General" sites might get a lot of traffic but the advertising is generally useful only to very large "brand" advertisers.

Once you know who you want to target, then create something good to send to that market FIRST. Then get your advertising going again ... but remember what I said about where to advertise :-)

So thus far i havent focused on any particular niche because i didn't have one in mind when creating the site. Honestly i wasn't thinking of targeted marketing at all but now there are a decent amount of readers with a decent amount of content and at this point i don't think i can target the website to anything specific (at least not for this particular site). The health topics i cover are very broad but original/well formulated content.

So any suggestions on how to grow and work with a list for a site like this would be appreciated.

It's hard to say when you say it's about general health stuff. I'm guessing it's everything from wart removal to why is my nose bleeding type content, and that's a pretty big niche to ask 'what are all THESE people interested in?'

I'd start by creating a report of something you think WOULD get interested people signing up for it. It could be weight loss, or healthy living related, or whatever you think a large majority of your readers would be interested in.

Then, create content around that niche and promote it

Then segment your site using categories so that you can have individual topics of interest.

And if your site is very broad then what you may want to do is have multiple lists for multiple interests

I like the idea of making multiple lists and putting specific signups in different categories. Do you guys have any ideas on where i could get quality PLR Newsletters that are ready to monetize?

    PLR ... shoot me now!

Please don't butcher your list like that. You just said your site has unique and original content, why would you want to stuff your email list with PLR garbage and wreck your relationship with your email list subscribers?

Man i was really hoping there would be a decent PLR newsletter that i could use or at least modify seeing as how they wont be on my actual website (avoiding the duplication issue) but i guess that may not be true.

It seems as if your challenge lies with the few amount of signups you are getting daily.

I would rather you focus on bumping that number up first, while you can always go back and send content to your list...

Whether it be a newsletter PLR or not

Anything you can suggest in particular to try to get the signup rate higher. Also what % signup should i be shooting for. Ballpark of course.

    1. It depends on your strategy. On Facebook, for example, I almost always aim 25%+. On blogs receiving organictraffic, for example, the opt-in rate tends to be lower.

    2. You should definitely keep in touch with them after they opt-in, so I suggest you to start sending them some good information. If you don't have a product or funnel now, don't focus on sales, but build a relationship so that they don't forget about you.
