Email Autoresponder/Squeeze Page question

Hello everyone,

So I am confused about something and hoping you could help.

I have AWeber as well as an email list. I capture emails from my home page (Enter your name and email to receive tips, etc. type thing).

That's one thing.

The other thing, is I have ANOTHER box to the right hand side of all my pages that offers a free gift once they sign up.

So I'm getting a little confused and my questions are:

1) Within AWeber, do I create 2 separate lists for these two (one being main "enter your email addy for updates", second being "enter your email for free gift")?

2) Do I create 2 separate email series for the two? It wouldn't make sense for example for folks who just signed up for updates, to get a random free gift, and vice versa.

How should I go about this? My site is about to go live and I want some clarification!

    If you give visitors too many options they may just decide to do nothing.

    I suggest you add one opt in box to the page and test different versions to see which one converts best.

    Visitors have the "what's in it for me" mindset so be sure to give them a compelling reason to sign up in the first place. Offering a free gift is a lot more compelling than "updates"

          You make two different "welcome message"s,
          then they can get the same follow up series
          afterwards.

    Which one is working better is the first question I would ask?

    To keep it simple I would have only one opt in for the updates but give them the free gift when they sign up. Tell them what the gift is - make it worthwhile - use a catchy headingetc
    You are more likely to get people to sign up for the updates, tips etc if they are getting something free, that they can see might be useful for them.

    Or, offer the free gift in a sidebar. Make it sound and look great. Use a graphic.
    Then after your posts have a simple optin that is for updates, tips etc
    You will get emaill addresses both ways to build your list.

    If you create two separate lists you can take advantage of the Aweber automation features to remove/add them to others list at subscription.

    I think you should just use one list and change the optin form to say "Enter your email to get updates, tips and a free gift"...

    I would suggest something like this. Have a primary email campaign where you offer helpful generic autoresponder messages.

    Other than that you can have various other free gifts that you are offering to your customers. Use their automation feature so that once they download the free book they are automatically moved to your main list and deleted from the original.

    That way how much ever free gifts you offering you are channeling all your subscribers to your main list where you can also give these other free gifts as a free download into the primary list.

    I'm with Coby.

    For one he knows what he's doing and two you just want to send emails and this keeps it simple. Just start getting traffic and build the list then worry about it, try new stuff and test things (but the reality is that's hard and we're all too lazy)!
