Download Page Help Please?

I am trying to update my download page. I'm using Kompozer and Filezilla.
I have the page saved and when I reload it into Kompozer it is fine.
When I upload it to the server it is unchanged.

I have deleted the old one, updated it and reloaded it multiple times, but nothing changes.

And now I am going to cry or eat chocolate and so far the chocolate is winning.

Has anyone got a clue as to what I am doing wrong?

Try clearing your cache by pressing "control + F5"...

This will also refresh the page and it should show the revised page.

    good luck.

    Cheers,
    Coby

      Hello Katie,

Like Coby mentioned above it's probably your browser's cache. Clear it and try again.

Thank you Coby and NeshSab. I tried it, twice, nothing has changed.

I now have the chocolate box opened ...

You probably do not need to do this, as the two other answers likely will solve your dilemma. However remember you can always log into cPanel , go to File Manager and select "View" the index.htm file. You will then see what version of the file is there ( if you are familiar with the source code changes).
As I said, probably not necessary, but there is always a way to know exactly what you have.

    +newportone, thank you.
That is what I have been doing.
I'm logged into cPanel, I checked the "View the index.htm file" and it shows the old page. If I check the code there, THAT shows the changes. Checking the webpage via a browser shows the old unchanged file.

I may need brandy now ..

well then , within cPanel is the ability to upload directly without an FTP app

filezilla is very handy, however, it is not absolutely necessary.
I have placed whole websites on the server via cPanel

What about also going to the Control Panel on the home machine.
Go to Internet Options and delete cookies, chocolate, history of sites visited , etc.
Portion yourself a small bit of brandy and repeat the process, should turn out ok.
Keep us posted , now I want to know what happened

I just tried that. It said it had uploaded but the file is not there, nor is the previous one.

    My c-panel is haunted!

then I would save everything to a folder on the home machine ( which I am sure you probably already have done ) and delete the index file server side and upload directly from your hard drive to server side via cPanel

As you probably know, but I will say it anyway :
This is a big deal - keep all files, images, notes , everything relating to each site in their own folder on your hard drive. NEVER ever touch it. When it is time to edit, right click and make a COPY of the original files and edit them.
That simple procedure will keep you out of a lot of trouble

This incident makes me think there is some setting on your cPanel that is not allowing "over write" of existing files. As you know Filezilla takes care of this and always asks if that is what you want to do. However it sounds as if cPanel was blocking that this time. The host support can tell you if this was the case or not.
Darn, I only have Mt. Gay Rum , no brandy here.

      Hey Katie,

it happened to me too, the issue in my case
was that I had index.htm and index.php at
the same time (one will override the other).

You won't see anything as I now have to learn how to get the darned pages sorted. Last time I did this c-panel thing was three years ago, I'm a bit rusty (it rains a lot here in England)

I have no clue about index.php Dani78. What does it do?

I never back up anything. I found files and websites on the c-panel that I had lost ages ago when my old computer died. I found my c-panel magic videos there too, I think I should spend the next 5 hours actually watching them.

I will back up everything from now on though. Twice!

If you have websites which have commercial value and provide some revenue then I recommend purchasing a nice external hard drive.
Make a complete folder for all sites.
Put original unedited folders on the external hard drive in addition to the home machine. That also will save you a lot of trouble, since on rare occasions a home machines hard drive can croak , leaving you with a big expense and time lag to get the data off it.
External hard drives are essential equipment in my view.

index.php is just the landing page for a site if it is written in PHP.
it is the same thing as index.html

If it happens again I will contact the Cpanel admin.

I will get an external hard drive, I lost everything when my last PC died. I'm newly back to IM after a three year break so I have forgotten much of what I did know.

Rum is good, in fact it's my favourite tipple.

My apologies, I do not know what tipple means.

    Tipple means alcoholic drink.

It's odd how there are so many different words in our respective English language.

Katie, you don't need to have index.php
(I use it because I usually use things that require php).

the reason your download page didn't update
was probably that you had the same file twice
      (ex. index.htm & index.html,
      or download.htm & download.html)

that's probably why you kept seeing the old one.

Backing up is a good habit, I have the same files
that I have on my website on my computer as well,
you can also have a third copy on an external disk

... just in case anything happens with the computer.
