Forget Amazon. YouTube Is Where Shoppers Do Research | Adweek

In fact they have a valid point, if you want to make a REAL review site you should in fact purchase all the products, have someone review them on video, or do it yourself and host them on Youtube AND on your site obvious.

Then rank the video's in Google, as well as your site, or perhaps get double listings by showing your own video thumbnail in the SERP's.

Not a bad idea, just way too much work for me personally.

But it is a way to stand out of the crowd for sure!

You don't need to buy the products to make a decent video review. Of course, if you have the product while reviewing this is best. But if your review site consists of 10 - 15 products at $150 - $500 then that's just not feasible.

Just make sure the video script is engaging, and is voiced right, NEVER use text to speech.

Not just for Amazon either, video is essential for anything you're marketing.

Yeah but that kills the whole idea behind it, people go to Youtube to see the product in action/live.

Great in theory but unless you have a well established site with thousand of visitors it wouldn't be cost effective, making engaging videos with the right script is the next best thing.

Lol what a shameless self promotion and then someone else from Chiang Mai has to come in to defend him.

You happen to know they sell voice overs at Fiverr for 5 bucks? Heck they even have people who sit in front of the camera who can read a script in a convincing way with a good voice.

But none of that matters, it's about REAL reviews, with the product in hands demonstrating it.

It's not really about cost effective, it's just too much work, finding an actor/actress to demonstrate it, getting a quality camera to record it and so on.

That's the joy of the Warrior Forum we all have links in our signature

I replied with my view on the topic nothing to do with Rob being in Chiang Mai..I haven't even met the guy though I have purchased videos from him in the past when he was based in China.

Yeah we all have but a written review translated into a video / audio script brings nothing extra to the table, besides that it's uploadable to Youtube.

You know what would be the "best next thing"? Contacting people at Youtube who did actually review it and asking their permission to host it on my own site, possibly in exchange for money to edit the video to not show the URL they're promoting.

Agree with Rob the Dog and I have used his videos in the past so know what he is talking about.

An engaging video is a great way of getting visitors to your site and its pretty easy to rank Amazon product videos on the first page of Google with YouTube.

I personally prefer watching Youtube product reviews. It's more transparent and realistic. Expectations are set properly instead of relying in pictures and paid reviews. The actual performance of the product is being shown in a manner that can easily entice customers.

When someone is new to having a review site then he or she will have to use his or her own resources. You really don't have to spend if you can borrow the products you'll be reviewing from your family, friends or colleagues.

Sometimes your really have to invest your money, time and energy into something that you're truly passionate about. Once your review site becomes popular, you don't have to buy the stuff that you need to review. Companies will be sending you their merchandise (Free of charge) for your review. This is the start of something big for all your hard work.

Exactly, but even if the products need to be purchased it's not a huge issue.

I had a site about hair dryers and flat irons, the thing made $600/month and was pretty dull.

So spending let's say $1000,- on 10-15 products is not that bad. I live in Thailand so I'm sure I can find a nice looking lady that speaks decent English to make a few video's for let's say $100 for a day and rent/borrow a salon for a few hours for $50,- or less.

Now i only have to find a way to get the products here cheap....

I did think of this and just paying one of the sales staff at local electronics stores to let me video and talk about there products I'm sure you could get away with it in Thailand.

Most people don't have the necessary attention span to read through several different reviews, whereas with YT videos they seem to be able to keep an eye on the video, chat on FB and do several other things at the same time.

So for me yes YT video reviews should be more than an essential part of your overall strategy.

In other words those long written reviews are in fact a waste of time for most visitors.

However Google value's it, which is a bit of the bottleneck.

I will soon do some expirement with a site that mainly consists of:

      - page with video / pro-con list below it and some customer reviews
      - table comparison pages
      - top 5 or top 10 best list pages with short summaries for each product

As I certainly think you have a point!

Just curious how Google will rank such site opposed to the traditional way of 500 word reviews and 800+ words informative articles.

I'd still keep adding the informative articles and I still think the long informative reviews are worth adding with plenty of contextual links and call to actions, but top 10's, comparison charts etc all are worth having.

In my experience, a combination of text and video demonstrations can drive conversion rates higher than either alone, especially for high ticket products.

Quite often, manufacturers may provide marketing collateral including video clips from their PR department.

A common method also used by heavy weight reviewers is to request a press kit, which nearly always has a listing of businesses/industry that are using the product, and may be available for interviews and photo/video shoots.

i take in consideration the reviews from YT as well but only as a part of my decision. It is in combination with google search reviews, reading reviews from amazon and so on
