Brand name domain vs keyword/s domain?

Simple as that. What is better - a brand name domain or a domain which includes your keywords. This is specifically for probably a long term site, which will be monitized with (one or two of the following) affiliate marketing, cpa, ppc etc.

Please state a reasons for choice as well. Thanks

When you say brand name, if you're talking about a company name (which I assume you are) like Ford or Nike, forget it. The only thing you'll attract are their lawyers.

It's always safe to go with keyword domains.

No, I was talking more like an unique *(new)* brand name vs for example: Stress-Management.com: The Leading Stress Management Site on the Net

The brand name can be something like.... www.ileoa.com - I don't know that is just an example.

Why not create both and split test. Even if one doesnt go as good you can keep the domain for later use or sale.

EMD or generic are better for start ups. HOW are you getting your traffic? Brand name must be very memorable, easy to spell, easy to say without confusion AND very deep pockets to 'brand' them.

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If it's SEO and it's a new brand (people need to be aware of something before they begin to search for it) you aren't going to get much bang for your buck so I'd say go with popular keywords.

    Always build a brand.

Do you want people to know you and your brand 5 years from now?

Think about the links YOU click on when you search. I rarely visit EMDs, because they're almost always an affiliate. JonsBlog.com (or whatever) has a higher chance of having quality content, at least to someone who's familiar with the search engines.

If you're serious about the long term, don't start off like a cheap whore doing favors for Google, Youtube or any other traffic platform. Build a real business instead, you'll thank me later.

Unless you have lots of resources, in most cases, the generics are going to be out of reach.

So, that leaves you with a crappier keyword-filled domain vs. a brandable.

In either case, in the beginning you are not going to get much type-in traffic or help from search engines.

I don't think people trust crappy keyword domains. I know I don't. So I would go with the brandable (as long as it is catchy). There are lots of good ones available for a reasonable price. If you are creative, you can even still hand register some decent ones.

Thanks a lot guys, very good feedbacks. I am thinking of sticking with a brand name as I am not in it for the quick cash. I will not be selling my own products, but maybe other people's products, or adsense etc. As long as I stick with it, I believe it will pay out in the long-term.
