Google Ain't Always the "Best"

When I research banking and financial topics, I often get better results with MSN than with Google. (So far, I haven't played with Bing enough to know how different it is from the search engine at MSN.com.)

By "better" I mean that the first page contains links to articles with content that actually varies! I've had it happen where most every result on Google's first page took its text from the same source.

It may be a bad idea to have duplicate content on your site, or to link to your site from a page that has duplicate content...but Google -will- sometimes rank duplicate content pages from different sites, on the same SERP. (I say "sometimes", but it happens more frequently than many seem to realize.)

Some of the searches I do return lots of duplicate content in Google, but more varied content with Microsoft's search.

The question isn't always, "Which is the best search engine going right now?". Quite often, the "best" question is, "Which one of these engines is the best tool for the job?

Just a little food for thought as I research a client's project.
