Sign up form conversion rate?

Provided someone has a well written landing page with a signup forum, what should the conversion rate be?

I had an ad on Facebook that goes to my signup page. I was paying about 10 cents per click, but only about 10 percent of people going to the page are signing up, so it's still costing me a dollar per lead. 10 percent seems way too low.

I get about 40-50% optins with good traffic sources.

Here is the page I'm directing people to:

The REAL way to sell art on Ebay

Maybe it's a targeting problem. I'm trying to find people that are in to art and also trying to sell their art on Ebay.

That's the optimal range, anything else needs tweaking and more testing.

you're doing something right because your 25% of the way there. The only way to increase it is change your traffic source, video on your squeeze page, change the text, color scheme, etc.

Figure out what makes it go higher and which makes it go lower and adjust each level as the numbers dictate.

It's quite often the ugliest most repulsive thing you create that will be your big winner.

      Hope that helps

Hey - you're definitely on the right track. But that squeeze page is way too busy. No need to cram a whole article in there - I understand the desire, but those styles don't convert well. Attractive headline, 3 bullet points MAX explaining what they'll get inside, and your optin form. Clean and simple. Your optin form definitely needs to be above the fold, so they don't have to scroll to enter.
    Hope this helps!

Squeeze page is way too busy, keep it short, sweet and tempting.

How relevant the traffic as that is the key, keep something as incentive too as part of the process.

Yes 10% is too low but I am more concerned about quality of traffic too, you want to fix the top of the funnel first before optimizing it for the bottom.

If you really want to increase the optin rate then you need to create a squeeze page with nothing but the sign up form
People will definitely sign up when they found nothing on your web to see whats inside your web page
Thanks and best of luck !

I've had the best results with keeping the amount of text on lead pages to below 100 words.

Its hard to trim down what you have to say, but it always gets the best results.

The longer the form, the lower your conversion. I get about six percent - yes six. People want more than a free e-book now. It is getting harder to get a sign up. Try using SEO to drive traffic to your sign up pages. That way you save money. Listen to me, paying for sign ups is not a good idea as few of those prospects will buy any products any way.

It goes without sayng (but I'll say it anyway that you should split test everything. The numbers don't lie, and sometimes they'll tell you surprising things!

Another thing, while simple is usually best, you may find that adding a photograph, or a background may attract more sign-ups. It's been shown that a human face will tend to increase conversions. Pay attention to where the subject is looking too, people tend to follow the gaze of people in pictures. Just take a look at these two vision hot spot tests:

    Go figure...

Indeed since you're in the art niche, I would imagine your potential customers would like to see something 'artsy.' What that would be specifically, and whether it's true or not can only be determined by testing, testing, testing!
