I keep seen people asking for a mentor. That they need a strong, experience, powerful mentor. They believe they will make money if some one takes them under their wing.

Well I have bad news for you. Is not gonna happen. No one will just say, he I like you, I am gonna make you rich.

So how do you get a mentor?

Simple, build something yourself. Let's say SEO, you built a site. Then keep working on it, never give up. Ask the correct questions and you should receive the correct answer. And before you know it, you will be working with experience people willing to help you, because you are helping yourself.

Of course the fastest way to get a mentor is paying, but many are broke and can't help themselves but to ask for a freebie. But for those of you that really take action, congratulations.

For those looking to take action, go ahead. Don't be afraid of failure, is how you learn. And once you learned, no one can take that away from you.

Your right, a mentor of quality is not going to do it for free, but doing it on your own is going to take a lot of work, I should know I tried and even spending thousands on products didn't bring me success for a long time.

I eventually lost my house because of it.

Mentors help you answer questions quickly through their experience, often knowing and realising what you are struggling with even before you ask, one reason they are worth the money if you ask me.

Coming up with the questions yourself can find you the wrong answers, as your asking the wrong questions, focusing on the wrong things, this is going to prolong the time it takes to succeed and also test your commitment and determination many times over.

If I was a newbie today I wouldn't be asking whether I can afford a mentor, but how can I afford not to have one and how can I get the money to get one.

One thing I learnt is time is worth more than money, but many newbies are willing to give time for nothing, when paying money can save the time if you spend it in the right areas and a mentor is one that you should.

Even millionaires and billionaires pay mentors to keep growing, as they know they will get far more back in return on their investment and much faster results.

Think of it this way, you want to build a business to $10k per month, with a mentor you might reach that within 3-4 months, with other investments too, but on your own and without investing money that could take you 12 months or even more, maybe even years, even working long 10 hour plus days.

You will have all the frustrations and obstacles that 97% of online marketers and business owners have which end in failure.

An investment of a few thousand in a mentor and maybe $1,000 in development could be earning you the $10k every month where on your own you are making nothing or very little.

This means you're living the life you are now, the one you want to change for the better which is the reason you're looking to build a business in the first place, where as with the mentor you could be living the life you dream of and of eant many times over the initial cost of the mentor!

There are a ton of *Mentors (Labeled with an asterisk) out there who claim to be pros that charge an arm and a leg and give nothing but fluff and leave people broke, false information and with broken promises. Best to avoid them like the plague at all costs. A solid mentor is like trying to find a needle in the haystack.

Another type of Mentor to avoid is the "Free Mentor" who voluntarily will tell you he/she will teach you how to become successful in whatever field you're trying to accomplish. And then bail on you leaving you confused when you're stuck. It happened to me from a supposed PPC expert making over 1,000 a day. I may not have been scammed from money paying for a mentor, I was scammed with time, wasted time I could have avoided. "Time is money".

I see it happen a lot when a newbie or a struggling marketer posts a new thread asking for advice where a *Free Mentor" hijacks the thread leaving the same type of comments over and over trying to bait them for an ego boost or to build credibility for future coaching charging an arm and a leg. Avoid these types at all costs.

What's the point of having a sig if no one buys from you?

Free mentors probably aren't worth anything thats why they are free, and anyone decent would be unlikely to offer up services for free as they could use their time much better making money themselves.

For that reason you would have to question why they are offering it free.

As for paid mentors, like everything there is people exploiting others, taking advantage of people especially when they are in a vulnerable position which most people trying to build a business online are, after all its usually why they start looking to make extra money in the first place.

You have to be wary and take care to understand what they are offering and what expertise they have, while also understanding what they expect of you in return, its not going to work getting a mentor that expects you to invest thousands of dollars and 40 hours per week to gain success within a certain time, if you only have a few hundred dollars and a few hours a week in your spare time.

Having the wrong students for a mentor is just as frustrating for them as it is for a student that has a mentor that doesn't suit them so do your research.

See what they guarantee in terms of success and I repeat see what they expect from you, this way you will have a better idea of how they will fit your needs.

You should normally of purchased other products from them and understood their teaching style and expertise, you will then understand if they are talking fluff or not.

The other recommendations would be to research them, see what others are saying, check out their social profiles and see how people are interacting, and finally try and see if their claims are true, have they really had success or not.

Exactly and well stated. And it was a mistake I learned from, and I hope other newbies and struggling marketers are aware of this tactic. And believe me, I covered everything in the front end by asking ALOT of questions making sure it was something I wanted to pursue. He was extremely convincing. Therefore he didn't follow through what he preached. He even mentioned in the front end he was a mentor and had students.

So when I exposed him in his lies and dishonesty, he became very defensive and unprofessional and claimed he's not a mentor or a teacher (Even though he preached he was a mentor). And I was like, well what the hell are you then? It's the principle aspect that pissed me off. I lost over $1,000 in PPC Adwords following his advice. Lesson learned.

He (and a few others) uses his Sig to hijack newbie threads to build up his portfolio. That's why it's very important for others to not fall into that trap.

Mentoring is important especially in this industry which can be very confusing, and dare I say very competitive.

I was mentored by Alex Jeffries and I have to say he is excellent, worth every penny.

I fully agree with you. I started off looking for a mentor. After many years to no avail, I created my own system, and I now offer myself as a mentor instead of me looking for one.

I didn't think it would happen this way but it did, and I have no regrets. I have mentored quite a few hundreds who became as successful as I am.

As of today, I still mentor and Love every bit of it. Of course, this has made me a very busy individual, but when you love what you do, you don't see time pass.

To all those looking for a mentor, its not easy and actually almost impossible to find a mentor that will think of you first and not his or her wallet.

You also have the option of doing like I did and create your own course or system, but you need to be prepared to learn a whole lot before starting to mentor folks and learning on your own, you will need to self motivate yourself along the way to reach your goal. It's doable because I did it and the OP did it too!

If you sign up under MLM, most quality sponsors will act as your mentor. I've spent countless hours on email and phone with my sponsor. He has even helped me coach my sign ups.

I've realized that the quality of the sponsor is almost more important than the quality of the product.

    Cheers to that evil clown!
A mentor alone won't save you or make you rich, you have to at least make a decision within yourself that this is something you want to do and that you're gonna be coach-able to the mistakes you make.
If you're not coach-able, no mentor in the world can help you..

    Cheers!
