Email without the opt-in

I send out roughly 60K emails per month, USA to USA. We comply with all USA CAN-SPAM requirements. That said, we do not have explicit permission from the people we email to send messages.

I use NetSuite CRM now, and they are fine with sending out the emails. However, a company I am consulting for uses Salesforce.com (which limits emails to 1,000 per day), so I have to find an emailing service to integrate with them, and the service needs to not require recipients to opt-in.

Please spare any ethics discussions on emailing to non opt-ins, it has successfully driven our mid-sized company for several years.

Any suggestions that can help here?

    Forget ethics, I'd be more concerned with the legal implications. (;

There is no legal requirement to have a person opt-in before you can email them.

It is the content of the email you send and how you communicate that must comply with CAN-SPAM.

i.e. Have a valid business contact address, have an unsubscribe option, etc.

As the OP said, his company follows CAN-SPAM laws in their emails.

People should research before they speak. Or at least dont speak if they dont know. Can Spam (for the US) does NOT require opt in. I still would not do it, but its not required.

That being said: To the OP, why not consider getting a dedicated box and running your own emails.

How sure are you that you are reaching your audience....and that's said, how about legal implications?

For USA to USA emailing, we are only required to follow CAN-SPAM laws, which we do to the letter. It is not illegal to email to people who have not asked to receive the email.

To answer your other question, we are in a very niche industry and we use Jigsaw.com to find companies which we are sure fit well with our product, and we only email to the appropriate titles.

There are some good autoresponder scripts that you could configure yourself for your needs. Set the opt in details to what you want.

    Hi,

I tried my luck with email marketing but had very little success. I was using Interspire with IP rotator and was working in a rev-share model with a company that was providing email lists for me. I was following CAN-SPAM and was sending CPA offers. Now for the problems...

    1) ESP are getting touch and inboxing requires a lot of knowledge. Just one word in your email body can cause the email to go into SPAM.

    2) You need to know when is the best time to send these emails. From my experience Mon-Thursday 8AM-5PM which is work peek hours for many people. Many people only check emails when they are at work and don‘t like working on answering emails once they are home.

    3) I would use an SMTP service so that you can increase the number of different IP addresses and sending limits. However, another huge problem is that bounce-backs means it hurts your sending score so make sure you clean your lists before sending. Not sure who your using but this is a must!

4)The best setup is to use Interspire which is a front-end and backend and provides statistics, multiple SMTP which you can add, split-testing email creatives.

    5) Setup test accounts with many email service providers like gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc so you can test the inboxing before sending your actual emails.

There are so many ways to do this which I‘ve tried. If you have anyhting more specific to ask me after reading what I wrote, please let me know.

If you can afford it... you should get your own email server.
