My 1st Success w/Internet Marketing & How I Did It

I've learned a bunch here and have met some good people in the process. I thought I'd give back by sharing how I made my first success with internet marketing years ago in hopes maybe it sparks an idea within you...

I cut my teeth with online sales with eBay. It was easy as the buyers came to me and all I needed was a good headline, description, pictures, maybe a "Buy It Now" price and let things happen as it may. Then I started thinking of the fees that were piling up:

Insertion fees
Auction addition fees(pictures, bold, border, etc)
Set time of auction fees
End of auction fees
PayPal fees

Then I decided selling my own stuff by my own website. Then I had an idea. I was selling physical products and saw how people were selling information and wondered how I could do it.

I got the idea to find a professional in a small niche industry to write down what he knows in that field and I would pay him. I had him supply pictures and his copy. Good for me he knew MS Word, so this made it easy for me. I then finished up the eBook and turned it into a PDF. Then I hired an eBook designer to create the eCover and the same for the design of the header image for site. I then used a service that packaged the PDF into a secure file that is only viewable on one computer... the buyer's. It could not be transferred anywhere else to be read. I created a small one page website with good selling copy, headline, sub-head, body, etc. I used PayPal for the buy buttons.

I paid the guy about $155 and sold the eBook for $9. Not long I got my money back and then some! So that is an idea that isn't totally unique, but I thought of it, pursued it, worked at it and implemented it. It worked! One of the main reasons it worked is because I found an untapped niche with little competition at Google results.

So if you don't have enough material yourself to write an eBook, borrow.... or buy!.. someone else's knowledge and create an eBook from that!

Enjoy.

Well done. Sounds a good idea. I never thought to approach an expert in their field and get details from them. I like the part about the pdf only been able to be viewed on one computer. Must look into that myself. See if you can make it happen again

Hey - congrats on the success! You didn't just have an idea, you actually ran with it. Good for you. And it takes guts to make an investment like that first, but you obviously did the right thing. Thanks for sharing.

Amen to that. My first couple of products back (about 14 years ago) in the day were in niches that I knew nothing about. With some old-fashioned hard work and research, I found experts in my own back yard who were willing to help me create an information product for a fee.

For a recurring fee they were willing to help me answer questions from both prospects and customers.

If you pick the right niche, create a product that people want, set up a killer sales funnel, and have a comprehensive product and/or service backend strategy, you can do extremely well.

You don't need to be an expert to get into any market or niche under a larger market because you can usually outsource it.

I thought you may gain something from the idea. That's the great thing about IM, you can have a concept in your mind and manifest it's reality through action! It only takes a bit of guts and the willingness to take action. I hope that this is something you can take and come up with an idea you can use to build your IM projects.

I wish you the best of luck... and work hard until you succeed!
