camtasia studio alternative

Glad I checked out the post. I've been thinking about Camtasia but could not afford it at the moment. Appreciate the link and positive feedback on the product.

For screen recording I use Camstudio or BB FlashBack Express and find both these more than good enough.

For editing, I currently just use Windows Movie Maker, although I've recently discovered VSDC Free Video Editor which looks like it's pretty cool. I haven't actually used it yet so I can't comment as to whether or not it is actually any good, but it might be another option for you to look at. Have you tried Screenr (Windows or Mac) or Quicktime on Mac? Both do excellent Screen Recordings with Audio. If your on Mac, you can easily edit in iMovie which is free

I use Kazam because I am in Linux. Not sure if there is a windows version of it, I believe there is. Used Camtasia when I still had a windows machine up. But with azam you will need to use another video editor to edit the video later.

Best free screen recorder for me is Hypercam 2.

Not hypercam 1, or 3, but hypercam 2

Super simple to use, and filesize isn't to big to work with.

A word of advice. I just checked for a recent version of CamStudio and ran across the following piece from Wikipedia.

"There have been ongoing and proven reports about malicious code contained in some binaries of the software. At the moment (January 2014), the binary on the webpage CamStudio (Dot) org is infected with the trojan Artemis!0FEA2B12900D[10]"

I have version 2.7 on my PC, but I'm running XP and need to start using my laptop more beginning next week. Is there a safer version of CamStudio that can be used right now?

CamStudio just doesn't want to work on my computer and was nothing but a headache for me. I'm using Screncast-O-matic now and love it!

I use the paid version (only $15 a year) but, there's a free version as well. Check it out:

I second that.

Screencast-O matic is great.

It is very easy to use, Camtasia is easier with editing, but with Screen Cast is still awesome.

I don't know why it has't been recommended more.
