personally i never really believe duplicate content is of a big issue especially if most of you;re traffic is from paid advertising like pay-per click and stuffs

I think it also doesn't matter much. Have also found a bunch of duplicate content which is sometimes competing with each other. What important is the quality backlinks it generates your site.

There is NO duplicate content
penalty for content on multiple
websites.

Google has even posted this on their webmasters blog.

that's right. It's just that the modern filters se's use mean that duplicate content no longer does you much good. SE's want to provide a 'good user experience'. Showing 10 results for the exact same article on one page is almost a definition of a bad user experience. Which is why they spend (and are continuing to spend) such a lot of effort filtering it out.

That's the problem - you get over-explanation and over-interpretation which leads to more confusion and to more wrong assumptions.

There are hundreds of terms that, when googled, show a first page of results filled with sites with the SAME article on them. That's because with articles, the term is "syndication", not "duplication".

Duplicate penalty does not apply to article marketing. Even google says so - and they should know. Threads on the topic are often started by people hoping to get their links seen.

  Google, AFAIK, makes no distinction between an 'article' and other content. I'm not aware that there is some little guy in the Google basement reviewing every piece of content in the universe and saying 'Yup, thats an article, nope thats not, nope thats not, Yup, thats an article'.

  I agree that there is no duplicate content penalty. Thing is I believe there is no benefit either. For the sake of user experience Google will show only what it's bot calculates is the "authority" version attempting to find the contents origination.

issue of duplicate content is contentious, as a content writer myself for a leading SEO company i know the importance of unique original content. But, its sometimes just too time consuming to post different unique articles on different websites. I agree with the above poster, but if you have an ecommerce site I think it's always best to make sure the content you have on it is unique.

I agree - unique content is best. However, that doesn't mean (as I think you know) that using reprinted articles is bad.

Both types of content have their uses.

I guess its fine to have duplicate content on multiple sites. Even some people have their same articles posted on multiple sites and thats seems to be fine for all the sites as far as the search biggies goes. So far I haven't seen these sites getting banned from searches!

Bottom line is always - there is no duplicate content penalties for material on multiple sites so - what is your goal in article marketing?

Google will only rank one of your copies of your articles. But that doesn't necessarily make it bad to submit it to multiple directories.

Submitting the same artlices gets your link posted in many different places. It is as simple as that.

People will click your links, whether it is duplicate content or not.

So, I publish an article first to a big directory like ezinearticles. Then I distibute it to multiple directories.

Sometimes I spin it. Sometimes I re-write it. Most times, I don't bother. I get links either way, and people come to my pages.

While duplicate content may not help your google ratings you may still get viral traffic from visitors of the sites which post your articles. Not such a bad thing!!!!

I recommend fresh content, or at least flipping/switching some content, when posting elsewhere. Fresh content is best though. The search engines love new, fresh content as opposed to "stale, reheated, or rehashed content."

Duplicate content is a huge issue, that is why you only find a few million pages with the US Constitution Ranked.

It is why there are only 349,000 pages listed and ranked for the lyrics to Britney Spear's Toxic.

50,000 pages of the text of President Obama's inaugural speech.

It is the reason newspapers refuse to use content from newswires on their websites. (What? They do use it?)

If anyone who makes these claims ever took the time to THINK and do a SEARCH they would realize duplicate content claims are a MYTH.

Even the fact the same article will only be ranked once is a complete myth. If you do not believe it, then go ahead and do the same searches I just did. Why are there so many pages of "duplicate content"?

Test your theories in the real world before you spew them out as facts.

Lets stop with this myth. As john mentioned, Google even has a whole article about it on their blog.

Its only hurtful if you have the same content on 2 pages of the same domain. And even in that case, it depends as Google explained

...Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for action on that site unless it appears that the intent of the duplicate content is to be deceptive and manipulate search engine results. If your site suffers from duplicate content issues, and you don't follow the advice listed above, we do a good job of choosing a version of the content to show in our search results...

I started my blog last year, I submitted each and every article I posted on my blog, to hunderds of article directories without changing a thing. After a year, I rank #3 for my keyword "ways to make money online"!

I mean, think about it people. It does not make sense. If there was duplicate content penalty as most think, then whats the deal with all the high pr article directoires, social bookmarking, news blogs and etc that have the exact same content on them?....

The debate of duplicate article content baffles me.
Is it not that the purpose of article marketing is to
allow as many people to read your articles? So if that's
the case, I reckon it wouldn't be an issue as long as we
have ownership rights to the article that we submit.
Otherwise, most news sites would get into trouble as
most news are duplicate content.

I have heard mixed reviews on this and wanted opinions. I know original content is always good but can you replace keywords and titles on.Article Duplicate bridge movements. The Mitchell movement is the most common. Search engines like Google have a problem. They call it "duplicate content": your content is being shown on multiple pages locations on and off your site and they don't know which location to show. Especially when people start linking to all the different versions of the content, the problem becomes bigger. There are dozens and dozens of reasons that cause duplicate content. Most of them are technical: it's not very often that a human decides to put the same content in two different places without distinguishing the original source: it feels unnatural to most of us. The technical reasons are plentiful though. It happens mostly because developers don't think as a browser or a user, let alone a search engine spider, they think as a developer.
