A Server on Steroids...

Warriors,

Lately I have noticed that Godaddy tech support has been as long as a 30 minute wait which usually results in leaving my name and number and a call back. By the time they call back I miss the call. I want to make sure that I can put together a relationship with a company that can handle my growth. In the old days I could get a dedicated server from these guys and with fast support. My concerns now is they may not be able to be there when I need them.

I am looking for a few more back ups for great hosting, support and preferably a dedicated server and basically on that can handle a lot of growth.

I would appreciate any input.

Host Gator was mentioned at one time but I have never used them.

Thanks,

I've been using hostgator for my dedicated servers since 2008. Their email support is very good, phone support can be a bit slow 15 to 20 minute wait time. Also, the operators that you get aren't the real techy types they can handle basic issues but usually have to defer to the techs for more complicated issues.

I've also had experience with dedicated servers from liquidweb.com. This was prior to 2008, at the time their support was great, however they were a bit pricey.

    Hope this help.

To be completely honest, HostGator has been going downhill ever since EIG bought them over the past few years.

GoDaddy however, has been actively making an effort to turn their reputation around. While it's not the best, even as a competitor, I'd recommend them over HostGator.

There's also other companies out there, be sure to do your research outside of just one forum/community. A good place to start would be: Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet

OK - Great feedback from both of you. I have some things to consider. Thanks.

If you have some technical skills I would highly recommend Linode for VPSs. But you do have to manage your own server.

I've had my dedicated servers through HostGator since 2004 with no problems. I've always been happy with them.

I think the major hosting companies are kinda like the major cell carriers - everyone has something to say about them, good or bad. But at the end of the day, they're all similar and you find one that works for you.

For me, HostGator had worked well (and ATT if you're curious about what cell carrier I use, lol).

I can recommend arvixe, I've been a very happy customer for over 8 years. They have 24hour live online and phone support and have always went up and beyond to help me solve my issues.

I second the recommendation for Rackspace managed hosting. Best support ever. When they say fanatical support, they mean it.

    Thanks,
I have used Storm On Demand and the support was great in 2012. Unlike many other hosts, especially unlike Bluehost and hostgator where customer reps mostly shell out canned responses, the tech support at Storm was knowledgeable, but then maybe my problems were not that "big" - not sure.

I have 2 Hostgator reseller accounts. The first I have used since 2008 and it is great. The second one I purchased late 2013 and every site on it is slower than crap. Hostgator says there is nothing that they can do... so, I will be closing that one and migrating the few sites away from them!

It seems that your experience will be dictated by how lucky you are to get on good servers...

You may want to also look at openshift.com run by RedHat as a PAAS sitting on top of Amazon WS IIRC Especially if you like running linux / java stuff they have a lot to offer and the let you run three apps for free.
