Which is better? Email with direct link to sales page or blog post with link to sales page?

Hey guys,

What do you all think?

Email content that contains a direct link to the offer?

or

Email that links to a blog post which contains a link to the offer at the end of it?

I'm thinking that the latter has the benefit of potentially being shared by readers, hence more potential clicks.

The former gives more clicks to the offer at the get go.

Love to hear your thoughts.

It depends on your readers, the best way to answer this question is to split test.

Both ways will do but I prefer to lead them to a blog post rather than a very long email, moreover when we lead them to the blog post, not only will it help our blog in terms of SEO but also it might lead them to buy another products from the blog.

I think the less steps the better. So if you have an email list, direct link to the offer. Think about if from a visitor's point of view. If someone directs me to a blog and within that blog post there's a link to an offer, how likely am I to go there?
Whereas if you send me an email with a link to an offer and I like your style, I might check that offer out directly.
And you could compromise - email them with a direct link to the offer, then in a follow up email later on just direct to your blog post.

Completely agree with that. The simpler and the fewer steps a user makes - the better. If you aim to sell a product - write a short but informative email about how your product can ease a person's life and finish with a call to action, impossible to resist. If readers find the product useful - they'll buy it even without reading long blog posts.

And you can use other methods to increase blog traffic if you need. Let your users subscribe to it via RSS or email and notify users by email about the new posts you add to your blog. Just email them with a short summary on what the new post is about and see how it works.

I have done some split testing on this and found some surprising results.

Firstly, the link within an email worked better. But as someone else pointed out, I also got unexpected sales/signups from other areas of the blog.

To answer the question more directly and generally, the fewer steps your visitor has to take, the better - always

        Hope it helps.

I could argue either way really... But they both serve their purpose.

I think from a raw statistical analysis, the emails promoting direct links will draw more money.

But, there are other benefits to promoting your blog. (Authority, respect, prestige, and it's humanizing).

So, do both - and more importantly, know your statistics.

If you are sending regular emails, then it makes sense to mix it up. For example if you had a blog post highlighting the benefits of your product/service you could send link to that first with a very indirect link to your product.

This could then be followed up with a direct pitch for the product. A third email could then follow up with some bonus to attract even more buyers.

This method really depends on your niche- probably in the biz pop niche, a more direct pitch is more effective.

    for just selling: direct link
for branding & selling: video + blog + link to sales page (triangle of trust)

With my backend customers i just write the email and lead them to a direct link. I do have a blog too, but it serves me other purposes.

The best way is to find out yourself by split testing. You will see the difference of conversion of your readers on both methods.

I will have to agree with lukeblower.
If you want to send readers to get information about a topic, you can send them to the post where at the end there is a link to the product then send another follow up that will send them directly to the product.
It's better to send people diretly to the product page if you are not giving some tips or information related to the topic.

Better send people to blog posts if you share some information about a topic then send a related product.

It always depends on the subject and has to be decided well when to send directly to the sales page or first to a blog post (with a link at the end to the product) then send a follow up message directly to the sales page.

I have always found that a direct link to the sales page works better for me. I highlight the product's features in the email itself, which almost eliminates my need to point people to a blog post detailing it further. It just seems that the more clicks people have to make, the fewer sales you will generally make, in my opinion.

Like others have said, I suggest using both of these methods. Having a blog helps brand yourself or your company name. All depends on how you are going about promoting the offer. Is it part of a promo? Is it a product review? Either way both of these methods work well.
