Default Do you use RSS feeds?

Tell me, do you use RSS feeds to promote your site and get traffic? If you do, share who you use, I use pingomatic. It seems to do the job for me.

Share your successes and your failings with RSS feeds.

Mm, this is something I was thinking of doing for a particular project.

Can you enlighten us on what Pingomatic is and, more importantly, what difference it has made?

Cheers,

Neil

Pingomatic is a ping service to announce to ping directories your blog including your website.

This sends out a signal to bots to come to your site and see the updates

This is the most abused service out there so you might want to try one of the other 22 services out there.

Just Google Ping service

Pingomatic is used to ping various websites and notify them that your RSS feed has been updated.

More importantly, you should make sure you use feedburner.com ( or another feed burner) to "burn" your feed. What does "burning" entail?

Well, say you have 100,000 RSS subscribers and you make a new post. These 100,000 RSS subscribers will attempt to get your new post via RSS from your server... and basically crash your server.

When you "burn" your feed, your 100,000 RSS subscribers get your feed from your feed burner, while your feed burner gets your updated RSS just once.

I hope that helps.

John

pinging in relation to rss feeds, used to work well and was pushed a lot years ago..

today there are RSS aggregators, that actually LIST the Contents of YOUR feeds

there is a dramatic difference between pining a feed and acutally listing the contents of your feed on highly trafficked and authoritative sites.

I have a list of RSS Aggregators here that are all free to join..

or take my trial for $1 for 3 days to automate it see my sig..
