video plr not playing

I searched around on google and here and could not find the answer I need.
There is not an appropriate sub-forum here, and the place I got the PLR does not have support or contact information.
I downloaded some mp4 videos and wanted to check them out to see if they would be a good fit for my site. They will not play. Windows media player will not play them at all. When I researched the net I found a codex that was supposed to work with Windows but it does not.
I searched for players and the only one I found that would allow me to download without advertising software is Realplayer. I downloaded this and when the videos play I only get the audio
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
