What if I don't like what my affiliates are doing?

I swear I'm not a control freak...really!

I started out with a private affiliate program (postaffiliatepro) but never did much with it, and it was so encumbering trying to find affiliates and all I really wanted to do is support people after the sale.

So, it was recommended to me that I go digital, (previously my product was a tangible cd and book) and get on Clickbank, which I've known about for years when I attempted to do PPC with other people's products. (It never worked for me)

Here I am live for about two weeks, I got my first affiliate sale (yea!) based on my traffic stats I have about 15 affiliates (yea!) and then I learned that one of them is spamming craigslist with links to my program. (booooo!)

Integrity is a big thing to me...I'm in the work-from-home/flexible job niche, and I have my name and a video on my site because I want people to know that they can trust me. I KNOW that people are thinking that I'm spamming the boards, when really, it's my affiliates.

I can't tell if Clickbank has a way to manually approve affiliates, and frankly, it'd be way too much effort for me to babysit everyone.

Is this just something I have to learn to live with and suck it up? Should I just assume that any exposure is good exposure for subsequent releases of products? Or can I actually set guidelines for my affiliates through clickbank?

Any insight would be really appreciated!

This is one of the reasons I still don't offer phpLD in affiliate programs. The reputation of my product is important, and I don't want it marketed in ways that might give the product a bad image. I would be interested to see how people reply to your post, and I do thank you for bringing this up.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

If you are using CB this is something that you might just have to deal with...

However, if you use a product such as Easy Click Mate and get your affiliates to sign up with you, then you have a little bit more control. Luckily for us all the bone heads are few and far between...

On a side note: Is the spammer making sales for you?

If you need complete control, run an in-house affiliate program - don't use a network.

You'll get less affiliates this way, but the people who refuse to promote a product unless it's on a network are unlikely to make you many sales.

Thanks! I had a feeling it was something that I'm just going to have to live with.

I like having access to all of the CB affiliates, I just wish some of them wouldn't be so slimy. *sigh*

Oh, and Joe....no, I didn't get any sales from them. I'm assuming they get flagged off the board before anyone gets the information. The scammer is setting up an ad that someone has to respond to, and then when they do, they then send my link.

I'm hoping they'll stop soon, because the area on CL where the scammer is advertising costs $25/post. At some point, they'll run out of money and see it's not working!
