Amazon FBA -requirements for Non-US citizens

I'm based in Australia and interested in selling on Amazon.com (in other words selling direct to the USA market) using their FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) product.

Does anyone know about what the requirements are from Amazon for non-USA citizens doing this, or anyone already doing this from outside of the USA? For example do I have to have or provide the following?

- A USA bank account or credit card with a US billable address
- A USA physical address
- Complete some kind of tax with-holding form like the W-8BEN form

Herchell - not sure how late I am on this reply - have you had any success yet?

I am also South African and going through the painful process of registering on Amazon FBA, cause I wanna take advantage of the weak rand lol.

Eveyone is saying Payoneer is the way to go. I've registered with them, they're a great service - they give you a US bank account to receive payments, as well as a Mastercard for billing. (Amazon FBA requires both of these). South Africa not being listed is tricky to get around, I think most people just list the US physical address of Payoneer itself.

It just takes really long because because e.g. Payoneer has to ship the Mastercard to you which takes a few weeks. Couldn't use my local Mastercard because Amazon requires a billing address and South Africa isn't listed in the drop down. Very convoluted system I find.

Don't know if anyone else out there living outside the US has had success using Payoneer with FBA?

        • Hi Johan, sorry for reviving your reply here. But I am really looking for an answer on your post above. Did you manage to get going on amazon? I see payoneer prepaid cards is not accepted anymore, so what work around is there for a Credit card as the South African one wont be accepted? Any advise would be appreciated.

I know you need a seller's account - I applied and got one straight away. also, it's open to me and I live in Ireland - so that indicates it's available almost anywhere!
I am starting out with FBA myself - the only bit I am finding frustrating is how to pay for shipping the stuff to Amazon - their info is not very easy to find on that point... anyone else able to help?

      Doubleohdave,
paying for shipping is a part of exporting your goods-it is up to you to organize the shipping, i suggest using a hybrid shipping company, DHL/USP/FedEx so use a long haul company for the trip over the ocean, then the postal service-have a look at the major shipping company websites, they give you all the options. Amazon just wants your stuff, it does not care who you use.

    Hi wfvoodoo,
I too am in Australia, and I have been an Amazon FBA seller for about a year. To answer your questions:
    1. Yes, you need an American Checking account-BUT Payoneer is a company that provides a Master card solution, they provide the routing number and details, Amazon approves them and lots of international FBA sellers use them to get paid-you can use the card to pay for stuff, or withdraw cash-they also transfer to your own bank when you have over 250 $'s.
    2. Nope you don't need a USA physical address
    3. Yep, they get you to complete the foreign tax declaration-but the terms are good.
I can recommend mysilentteam.com which is Jim Cockrum's site, he also has an excellent training program called PAC for Amazon, it teaches you all about FBA-international selling-it is a lot cheaper than the amazing selling machine course-and better!
Hope that helps you, good luck

Thanks for the endorsement mrfume. To clarify... The "proven amazon course" or PAC is our amazon fab training course with numerous international success stories and hundreds of students from various countries. I'm quite proud of the low price and extremely high value of that course.

Anyone who buys the PAC gets lifetime full access to our membership site mysilentteam.com with thousands of global members and an active discussion forum there as well.

I have just purchased Jim's course and can attest to the huge value that's contained in it. I am really happy I saw this before being tempted with the Amazing Selling Machine. I'm sure it's a good course too but not very affordable. Thanks Jim!

      Hi MrFume,

Do you import the goods to Australia first before exporting to the fulfilment centre in USA? I am just wondering how practical this is from a cost standpoint, seeing as American sellers seem to have an advantage since they do not have to spend as much on shipping as non-USA retailers.

Thanks MrFume - I had read that they pay part of the shipping but can't remember where I read it - or whether the writer was getting things mixed up. When I tried to verify it for accuracy I couldn't find any info. So basically - all I need to do is fill in the online form, print out the completed form and attach it to my product, then send it to Amazon?

Did you know there's now an amazon.com.au Aussie version? Maybe that's your answer. I am an Aussie as well but don't really use it for selling.

I am a peruvian citizen and I am trying to do the same, how did you manage to arrange for payment? I am planning to import from china to the US, I guess I could travel to the US to setup a tax account or register a business, but i'd rather avoid it. Are you from Peru?

      Thanks!

I'm a non-US citizen with an Amazon FBA account.

Some people would suggest just doing it in other Amazon stores like .uk, .ca, etc.. but in my opinion it's worth spending the time and effort getting a US one.

I registered an LLC in Idaho, USA and got my EIN.

Got a US business checking account and debit card with Citibank.

There are many incorporation services online that will bundle bank registrations with their service.
