What traffic volume do you look for when entering a niche?

So I've found an ideal niche I want to go into, it'd be a cinch to rank and make some small amount of money.

My question is that my main 3 keywords have 900 monthly searches combined of which I would get the majority when ranking #1.
Is that enough to make this a viable area to enter into?

How much does the product cost?
How hungry are the potential customers?

If the price point is really high then you could make lots with that amount of traffic, but if its not then i would recommend a different niche with more traffic. You can have to think what percent can you convert into sales and how much money you can make . If its 1000 dollar commissions and you can covert 1% of the 800 people then you can make 8k which is a good amount. It depends on the niche and product and the customer.

After crunching a few numbers, I'm not sure if this would be as profitable as you think unless your conversions rate is super high.

What kind of monthly profit would you feel comfortable seeing from this niche?

I think it sounds like a perfect additional income stream. Just a few of these type of sites definitely adds up.

I think the key thing here though is to make sure that the site does not take up too much of your time

If it is fairly automated, definitely go after it

And yes, keep in mind that you will not rank straight away

Another alternative might be to rank web properties that rank quickly (hangouts hint hint)

          Hope that helps

Seems very doable depending on one last question. Will you earn that entire $40 or just a percentage? If it is a percentage what is that percentage?

A new site receives minimal organic search engine traffic. Some of the best research I follow shows that a high quality site promoting a high quality product takes an average of three months to receive 500 hits regardless of keywords. Again that applies to organic search engine traffic.

Minus the overhead if your sites earns a ROI of $40 monthly then you have a income and a viable site.

Only time will tell. You could give it everything you've got for three months and after three months you will know if you have a viable site. That is enough time for someone to have learned how to conduct a few paid campaigns and if the site is viable it would be good marketing to scale it up and generate some paid traffic.

    Hope this helps.

TOTAL search volume for your 3 main keywords is just 900 p/m?

That's SUPER low and generally I'd want to see much more. As in 10x more for a single keyword.

Keep in mind if you're going for search engine traffic even a #1 ranking (if you could achieve it - there's no guarantee) wouldn't get the full volume of searches a month - you'd be looking at probably max 40% of searches clicking through to your site.

Minimum I tend to target would be 3,000 searches p/m for a main topic / keyword.

It doesn't seem like a very in demand niche. You sure there aren't keywords with much higher volumes?

Having said that you need to examine more than just KW volume when examining niches.

A low volume search term that people are DESPERATE for a solution to could be super profitable if the keywords are buyer keywords, the traffic is targeted and the product converts well.

Look at search volume, whether their are popular blogs, busy forums and big social media groups, if there's any competition (a good sign), lots of similar products on sale, people advertising on Google etc.

This is all the signs of a healthy niche.

Only time will tell. You could give it everything you've got for three months and after three months you will know if you have a viable site. That is enough time for someone to have learned how to conduct a few paid campaigns and if the site is viable it would be good marketing to scale it up and generate some paid traffic.
IMO He needs to be using paid traffic ASAP to test this and see what the results are. No waiting 3 months.

If the buyers are as hungry as he says then he should see some sort of conversions even with a weak campaign.

This will at least give him some faith that there's money to be made.

      Here's something else to consider...

Forget about price point for now. Instead, think about margin. How much would you make per conversion? Getting 5-10% of a $40 physical product is a lot different than getting 75% of an ebook on Clickbank or 100% of your own product.

With low margins, you have to have a high conversion rate and high volume to make things click for you. With high margins, you have a lot more options.

Before you worry about traffic, use the traffic you see here to optimize your conversions. If you can raise your conversion rate to the point you can buy traffic at a profit, you can buy all the traffic you want.
