Is It Ok To Rant In A Blog?

I was just wondering, because sometimes I get so passionate about a topic that I find myself ranting in the post?

For example, When I saw Nancy Grace making false claims about Cannabis; I couldn't help but go on my blog and say a few things (No curse words or anything though) since my blog is based around Cannabis.

Is that ok?

  • Hell yeah! Controversial posts will attract attention and response, just don't go over the top as it could lead to a lawsuit.

Rant away in good taste i say...

That and it gets a little repetitive if you're ranting in every post.

There are people that turn it into their "thing" and make it work, but usually it just comes across as negative and whiny. It doesn't give value.

Plus, think about a person you know who rarely gets mad, whether it's your parents, grandparents, a friend, or colleague. When they do get fired up, you know it's something big.

Feel free to go off on Nancy Grace, especially as it applies to your niche, just make sure you're mixing it up and not relying on ranting in every article.

Agreed! I have ranted and sworn in some posts and got some great interaction.

Sure, there's always someone who's gonna get offended, but that's life.

Controversy always gets noticed, especially if you're taking the time to build a cohesive following as well.

Spice it up with commentary some days, tips another day, and then perhaps Monday's Rant/etc. Get your audience used to a blogging schedule that sparks their interest and compels them to share. Hope that helps!

Or you could keep your posts free of emotion, dull, bland, boring and guess what? ... They won't get read

It seems to work for most newspapers in the UK and Australia. I imagine the USA too. However you may lose some of your audience if they take the opposite view. Especially politics religion etc. So be sensitive as to how far to take it unless the idea is to crusade and change the world.

Yes yes yes, never be a boring participant that does not express their honest opinion about the article. If you make a heart felt response, it will thrill the author to see that there is real interest in the article.

I don't think "ranting" is the appropriate term. What you did is perfectly permissible especially if it's done in an objective manner. As long as you're not using offensive language and using personal attacks, then there's nothing to worry about. There are times that we need to speak up to correct false claims by personalities who have made a significant exposure in their chosen niche/s.

YES! It will help you stand out and get people talking (and hopefully sharing and commenting).

Why not! I wouldn't do it all the time put if you do it because some people talk trash and you can't hold it anymore then let it out. People like people who are real and not on the top of a platform.

I always felt uncomfortable posting "rants". However, I never shy away from posting how I feel about what's happening. I think it's good to see emotion in blog posts. I love blogs that are visibly passionate in the topic discussed.

Your blog is platform for what you want to say. Don't cross limits though to avoid any lawsuits.

If Nancy Grace is ranting or telling false accusations about Canabis. You can say your own side of the story without ranting back . I mean you should always show courtesy and respect when making your comments because how you write will reflect your personality

Ranting is one of the best things you can do - ANYWHERE (email, blogs, social).

People LOVE IT when you're authentic...

So, don't be afraid to be passionate. EVER. (But, if you rant 100% all the time, you'll lose steam).

Definitely. Taking a stance on something controversial like cannabis is perfect for a blog post. People are attracted to topics that are controversial in nature.

Yeah writing controversial posts does work and could go viral if done correctly. But like some said, don't make it a habit if that's not what you're blog is about. People will begin to get turned off by you and won't come back.

Of course it is ok. That's what your blog is for! People go online to read an edgy opinion, not just a dull stating of the ordinary facts.

    Too right.

People want to hear from REAL people with REAL personalities and REAL opinions.

You can knock out great content day in day out that helps people and do just fine but add in a touch of personality and let people get to know you and you'll have raving fans for life.

It's something I'm working on a lot more at the moment.

I'm telling more stories, letting people know more about my life, sharing what's happening in my day, using photos etc.

    So far so good.

I recently noticed that I have unsubscribed from just about every marketer / bloggers list that I've been on even the ones I REALLY enjoy hearing from except a handful who share insights into their life and really let their personality shine through.

Can't be a coincidence can it?

I know what you mean... Initially I felt uncomfortable about rant post until I saw the genius in it. The ranting attracts attention to your blog and if you're advertising your services or products on the sidebar and header of this blog, a percentage of that traffic will click on your advertisements. Which will increase either your optins or sells, depending how your funnel is designed.

Hell yes brother, go for it. Ranting makes blogging more fun and help get all your pent-up frustrations out, righting all that wrong with the world and other cool stuff people have opinions about.

Gobbing-off about this, that and the other can annoy others enough to make your blog an irresistible read.

Two points though, make sure you get your facts straight and avoid anything that may be libelous, other than that have fun!

I don't see a problem with ranting if it is your blog and you are ranting about things that are not sensitive. However, you have to be careful if the topics you want to rant on are sensitive like religion and racism. These are very touchy issues.
