Hello,

A friend registered some domains in .co.uk and .de but somehow cancelled them for reasons I can't explain. Godaddy wasn't happy and their email to him wasn't friendly. I quite understand their anger.

However, My friend decided to ask them to abort the cancellation or refund but he was told that they have submitted a refund which can not be cancelled.

The domains .co.uk and .de have been sent to redemption period stage so fast and he was given the option recoverying the domains for a cost he cant afford at the moment.

Though the domains still bears his names as the owner but his admin panel shows that they are pending expiration. I will like to ask if it will take 90 days for the domains to be available for registeration or they will be dropped in a few days since the refunds has been initiated. My friend wants to re-register that domains again. he registered them just last week here.

can any one help?

I'm assuming the friend hasn't yet received the refund and I doubt the domains would be available until the refund is processed.

He can ask godaddy but a better plan would be to stop checking on those domains for about 10-14 days and then check to see if the domains are again available.

If he keeps checking the status daily (which I fully expect he's doing) the domains are likely to be picked up on temp basis by a third party - we've discussed that dozens of time on this forum.

If it were my friend I'd advise him to back off for a couple weeks, think it through and know what he wants to do. In a week he wants domains, doesn't want them then wants them again. It may seem harmless but his indecision wastes time and resources on godaddy.

I really don`t think that the period is just of 10 14 days.. I know it passes 30 days if I`m not mistaking..

I'm talking about third party temp registrations and if they are unpaid (which most are) the domain shows as available again in about 10 days. If that's changed I'm not aware of it - if I find a domain I want I register then and there and avoid the problem.

If you keep checking on it - it can take longer because you are punching the "trigger" over and over.

This is software putting registration on domains people look up and don't buy before leaving the site. The goal is to sell the domain quickly for more (like when you go back he next day after you make up your mind)...if that doesn't happen the payment isn't made the temp registration expires.

That's a simplistic explanation but we know it happens.

That said - I have no idea how long it would take to relist domains after you have paid, cancelled, been refunded. That's a different story and could take 30 days for all I know. I'd think as soon as the cancellation is completed the domains would be available but could be wrong there.

Kay King, Thanks for the reply. Yes, he hasnt gotten a refund yet.

So basically, it means that if he stopped checking the domains, they will be freely available again for him to re-register in a few days time and it wont take 90 days to be released to the registery for anyone to freely register them? That would be cool. I am sure about .com would be readily available within a few days of cancellation but .co.uk or .de is what I dont know of.

Well regarding why he did that, I cant say but knowing him a little, may be he felt guilty. No one would like such on his/her business you know--buy stuffs and return them.

Thanks. I will just wait for it in a few days times and ask him to register them again if he want to.
