Offline Warriors: Whats the latest on SubDomains

The large amount of recent threads on offline marketing has really piqued my interest. I am getting closer and closer to jumping in on this market as I see it as a valuable addition to my portfolio.

I am extremely interested in the topic of 'renting' a site as started by GoGetta in his thread HERE .

With this in mind, I was able to acquire a great domain name of a medium sized city, e.g. "city-state.net"

So here's my thought process so far: For SEO purposes, it is a helpful to have the full long tail keyword as your domain name. With this in mind, I thought it would be a great idea to accomplish this through the use of SUBDOMAINS.

e.g. If i am going through a divorce and am looking for a lawyer in my city, I am likely to type in "divorce lawyer city state" or "divorce lawyer in city state"

So my idea is to create subdomains on my new domain and rent them out. I will be able to create literally hundreds of quality, keyword rich, LOCAL websites primed for renting to local businesses.

divorcelawyer.city-state.net or divorce-lawyer-in.city-state.net
dentist.city-state.net or dentist-in.city-state.net
hotels.city-state.net or hotels-in.city-state.net
etc...

A quick search through Google for some of these keywords looks like it will be real easy to get a top ranking with minimal backlinking efforts.

Can anyone please poke holes in my plan. Is it Viable?
Does Google see SUBDOMAINS as individual websites?

      dave147,

Thanks for the input. I think most people are used to seeing it that way. However, I was wondering about which manner (subdomains or subfolders) are easier to rank higher for.

If someone typed in 'dentists in madison wisconsin' , Which would be easier to get a top position in google for:

      dentists-in.madison-wisconsin.net
      or
      madison-wisconsin.net/dentist

I realize that both 'could' be attainable, but which would be EASIER (read less work)?

When it comes to SEO, i'd create a well-optimized main site and then go for subfolders (since Google treats subdomains as completely new sites).

    Cheers!

      Chris,

I knew about Google's treatment of Subdomains as new websites, I guess I was just looking for validation to see if it was still true. Apparently it is.

However, in my case, I do not think it matters too much. I was actually looking at is as a selling point. As in, which would you rather rent... a 'site' or a 'folder on a site'?

and which would be easier to rank?
