Default Joe's Cafe Markeing System - Part 3

Joe’s Café – Internet Marketing – Part 3

Just in case you missed them, you can read Parts 1 and 2 here …

Joe’s Café – Internet Marketing – Part 1
Joe’s Café – Internet Marketing – Part 2

OK – so I was down at Joe’s place just yesterday and I was telling him how I was making him famous on the internet by passing on his marketing wisdom. His response was a bit understated, I thought: he just raised an eyebrow as he poured me a cup of the brown stuff.

“So Joe”, I said, “I’m in here not just for the coffee, but to study you and how you operate. Then I can figure out how to make it work in internet marketing”.

“That’s interesting”, he replied, “because I figure I learned a lot myself from watching other people too”.

“Oh, like who?”, I asked.

You could have knocked me down with a feather when he actually said, “McDonalds”.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think McDonalds has a purpose, but have you ever tried ordering a scrambled egg muffin in there? Unless you get someone with 5 stars, it is usually a bit of a nightmare. If you are interested, I blogged about it here.

Anyway, back to our conversation …

“What on Earth did they teach you Joe?”, I enquired.

He smiled as he answered, “Well, you know, how to up-sell and cross-sell”.

Although I was familiar with the terms, of course, I have always been a bit confused as to what they mean. He put it very simply.

“Do you want fries with that? – that’s a cross-sell”.
“Do you want to super-size that? – that’s an up-sell”.

And I guess I’ll always remember which way they go now!

I realised how he applied these things in the café. Bundling things together, like his famous coffee and a scone offer – that was, of course, a cross-sell. And his equally famous “small or regular” – that’s, of course an up-sell.

So now when I am putting together offers, I will be thinking up-sell and cross-sell all the time – and so should you. If someone buys a PDF Compiler from you, for example, you should be thinking and enquiring, “do you need en eCover program too?”. (cross-sell)

Similarly, when someone buys a PLR package from you, you should be thinking and enquiring, “would you like to join our PLR Membership site too?”. (up-sell)

I have already been using these principles to great effect in my own business, but have Joe (and McDonalds too) to thank for putting them so succinctly.

So go to it my friend, up-sell and cross-sell your way to success!

And good luck

Will
