How many ebooks do you sell per day / week / month?

For those here who sell ebooks, can you give a general indication of how many you sell in a day or week or month? Obviously it will vary depending on the niche, and the price, length and whatever else, but just a rough idea.

Also, is your income from a book consistent or does it fluctuate a lot?

And what was it like when you started?

I just want to get an idea of what's doable for a beginner like myself.

A minute ago I did a rough calculation, and it went like this :

I sell my book for $2.99 which is £1.78 (I'm in the UK)
Amazon takes 30%, leaving me with £1.24 per sale
I sell just 2 per day, thats 14 per week, that's £17.36
I take 1/3 off for tax (I know that figure is too small to be taxable but I'll just apply it anyway)
That leaves me with £11.57 which I'll round down to £11
I then rinse and repeat by writing a book every week, effectively giving myself a pay rise of £11 each week
After 26 weeks (6 months) and 26 books I'm making £286 per week in my pocket. Which to me would be amazing because right now I'm poor.

Is that crazy or doable?

It's an interesting theory that looks good written down Johnny, the main question is are you capable of writing a book a week for 26 weeks? That's one hell of a lot of research and work to sell 2 books a day.

You may suffer mental burn-out before you get anywhere near that total.

Why not approach it from a different angle and go for quality rather than quantity, like writing 2 super-duper books in 26 weeks that sell dozens of copies a day each?

On the other hand if you are a prolific author who can write for days on end, give it go, write a few and see the results.
    Good luck

  • Build a site around each ebook too, and sell them directly through the site. Faster payment, no Amazon fees, ect. You can sell on Amazon too, but this way you have two options.

I've done just that with my books. I build a special site just for each book and either direct a buy now link to Amazon or sell it direct from the site.

      Write a book.

      Put up a site.

Collect e-mails to build a list, for future books.

      Add upsells / downsells.

Plenty of people on here that can show you how to do this process.

      Good luck.

First thing is first. You will be wasting your time trying to write an eBook a week - you will burn yourself out, and before month 2 or 3, you will absolutely HATE it.

    Trust me.

I currently have an eBook that I sell, in the UK, for £17. It is of high quality, and the content is based on my experience - in fact, I STILL practice what I preach in my eBook (which helps a lot, because I also enjoy it).

I sell it from my own website (very easy to do with wordpress and optimizepress), my only fees are Paypal and tax.

I promote it in signature links on forums (not this one), forums which are highly targeted toward my niche.

When I say 'promote' it, I actrually mean help people on those forums for free (but my signature link shows under every post of mine), helping to establish myself as an expert, and build trust in the niche I am in.

This one eBook has seen sales now over £11k in just over 2 years. That is ONE eBook, I wrote once (and periodically update), which, if averaged over the past 2 years, has given me about £400 a month.

Add on some of the upsells, and affiliate offers I have promoted over that period, and it comes to a very tidy sum.

I would rather put my name behind one or two QUALITY products, than try and flog hundreds of crappy ones.

    You should, too.

    Good luck.

Guarantee that you won't sell 2 ebooks a day for all of the 26 - that may happen for 4-5 of them with solid promotion and good word of mouth...also on Kindle things tend to sell for a while and then lose momentum.

A much better approach to this business is to pick a market, find 1 or more urgent problems/desires and then create your first product in that space with an aim to creating a range of products from low end (reports, short ebooks, amazon kindle ebook is one option), medium ($47-$97) which can be ebook bundles, more in-depth courses, video series, monthly group coaching calls, etc... and high end ($97>) which can be membership sites, physical products, coaching (group or personal) seminars, etc...

The ideal information business works like a funnel where you sell 1000's-10's of thousands of lower end products, high hundreds of mid-range products and dozens to low hundreds of your high-end products...this will earn you a 100K+ income where you can scale it up from there based on the opportunities in your market.

This way you are marketing once and pulling through those leads , turning them into customers according to their level of interest and spending ability.

I learned this my first couple of years selling infoproducts, you are actually doing a disservice to your market when you only offer them basic stuff at a low price point, you will miss completely those more serious people who want more from you and are willing to spend more.

Make a free e-book about a niche, make a list with it, make a new high quality e-book on same niche, and sell it, write to your email list and boom sales.
