Dear Warriors,

I need your opinion about buy button colors. If you give me your opinion here it can help me as well as others to choose a color for buy button. Just let us know which color make you click on the buy button. Yes, that it.

Thanks in advance
Sabbir

Edit: we will not talk about product quality here. We will just talk about website color scheme or primarily buy button color. So far we have found a lot of cool information, ideas, opinion here in this thread. Thanks everyone.

Update 4/19/14:
In this thread so far we have found that for the buy button..Yellow/Orange is best as Paypal/Amazon use this color. People psychologically week about this color.

For the website color blue is suggested by a lot of people.

Do you mean for online store? It depends on your theme really, as long as it stands out. If you want people to click without think, usually it depends how stands out and big your button is. The bigger and simple (but not obnoxious look), the better.

Sad, Very sad, that you think of IM in the context of what colours people might prefer for a button. You've, sadly, got it all wrong.

Idiots will give the time of day to what colour they opt for. Serious buyers are only interested in the quality of your offer . . . and nothing else.

Would be really good for you to brush up on your observation, in addition to a basic grasp of English language and even a shred of understanding interaction on forums . . . before wading in to deep waters that are alien to you.

in 2012 we did tests, and found that all colors, that light blue and cool blue backgrounds always increased orders.

Apparently blue is a relaxing color, or peaceful. Not sure why, but it just is, and our results prooved that.

and ORANGE add to cart buttons did better than any other words, or colors for some reason. Again this just worked for us, so we continue to use these colors.

When I read the original post my immediate thought was blue as well. Maybe not for a button but for the theme overall. I do find it a relaxing color theme for a website.

I think orange for buttons, and blue for links. But the theme, niche and target audince is important.

Pink will probably work on a website about baby girl toys, while a green or orange will do better on a website about herbal products or a website about printed circuit boards.

You can test it yourself with giving different tracking IDs to your different buttons and button locations.

You would be surprised at how using the right colors can induce a purchase without an individual even realizing it.

This is something anyone who is seriously involved in marketing should know or be studying, there are reasons way beyond aesthetics for why certain colors are used.

      Color Psychology

Color is a very influential source of information when people are making a purchasing decision. Customers generally make an initial judgment on a product within 90 seconds of interaction with that product and about 62%-90% of that judgment is based on color.

As long as you use the same colour for all call to actions and stay away from negative colours (not always a requirement e.g. you could use red if it's an brand colour) it doesn't matter.

All good responses here. However, for further fine-tuning, another factor to take into account could be specifically what product or service is being sold.

If you haven't convinced me that I want something by the time I get to the "buy button" there isn't a color in the known universe that will entice me to click that button. If I really want what's being sold, I probably won't really much notice the color of the button.

I agree with you. I totally understand the psychology why people buy. If they need something they surely will buy it. But color comes first when you have targeted audience on your website and you have a quality product or service on your website. You need to push them to click the buy now button / add to cart button / to get them engage with your offer.

I'm not getting that deep color psychology makes much difference at that point. I would concentrate more on the colors used over the whole page to render subconscious impressions. Other than that - I think rr1958 is pretty much right about just using what people are used to and hit yellow. Normalcy also is a "safety" trigger.

    Hi Sabbir,

I am consistently noticing Orange is a color used on a lot of sites to get people to buy. Check out the following address to learn more about how certain colors get people to buy.

5 Web Design Colours that Encourage Visitors to Click that Subscribe Button

Also, read the following below that I found on daddu.net:

If you a smart shopper, you will know that:

    Red makes you feel hungry; so if you see something red and feel like buying and eating that, this may be color, not real you;
    Orange makes you feel like acting; so if you want to click that pretty orange button that says "BUY NOW", this may be the button color, not your real wish;
Blue makes you trust the buyer; so if some website looks trustworthy enough to share your credit card information with it, this may be the design color choice, not your real feeling.
Green makes you want spend your money: in fact, like with blue, it makes you think the seller looks trustworthy enough to entrust him with your money.

If you want to read more, go to the following website address:

Color has everything to do with it. Rather than reinventing the wheel stick with the same color schemes as the big boys do paying attention to what you are selling of course .

As a general guideline I would stick to the chakra colors if the above isn't working for you.

Yellow would relate to food or the digestive so if you are selling food bam yellow is going to be the color to make someone hungry.

Orange on the other hand is the love color so when you use orange you are letting your customer know that you love them.

Blue is associated with the throat chakra and that color opens the door to communications, check out twitters and facebooks signup pages and the different hues of blue they utilize.

Other things to consider is placement of ads one place that won't loose attention is the upper right hand corner. All of this is based around science of the mind and psychology if you really want to go deep master NLP. Neuro Lingustic Programming.

      You are "not sure".

People, like me, who have tested these things ARE sure it makes a difference because we base our decisions on data and then act accordingly.

No one is saying you can have crap content but if you slap a green button at the bottom people will buy anyway.

Everything has to be solid but testing shows colour of button (among many other things) can make a big difference in conversion rates.

Don't assume because some big name is doing something that's what you should copy.

What if they are in the process of split testing and the design / colour you saw was the worst performer.

If you just make assumptions on things like that you can be disadvantaging yourself.

How hard is to test for yourself and know 100% for sure what converts better for your site / audience.

What you believe has nothing to do with it. It's tested and proven that button colour can and does make a difference to conversion rates.

Again you have to have everything else in place too (good content / sales copy / product) but you DO have to test things like button colour / size / shape / placement as they are 100% proven to make a difference, time and time again.

So many people basing things on opinion or what they 'believe' instead of on data. Go with what the data tells you every time. Your bank balance will thank you.

No one is saying you can have crap content but if you slap a green button at the bottom people will buy anyway.

Everything has to be solid but testing shows colour of button (among many other things) can make a big difference in conversion rates.
        And I disagree.

People misunderstand what "split testing" means. What you're doing is not "split testing" - it's "optimizing".

What you want to split test is not the color of the button, because on the same sales copy the color of the Add To Cart button will not even imply a 0.1% delta in conversion rates, and I don't care what any gurus say. I've tested this over hundreds of thousands of visitors across multiple sales pages.

What you want to split test is variables that make a REAL impact on conversions. Example:

        1) Price: $297 vs 3 x $97/month

        2) Sales pitch tone: hipey vs. analytical

        3) Long text-based sales letter vs. video sales with delayed Add To Cart button

        4) A call-to-action driven email sequence vs. a relation-building sequence.

        5) Offering a one-month free trial vs. 30-day money back guarantee.

        Etc.

Those are the split tests that can help you double your conversion rates. Wasting clicks on Blue vs. Green in your button is pointless, because the real impact in your conversion is minimum, according to *my* data.

If you just make assumptions on things like that you can be disadvantaging yourself.

How hard is to test for yourself and know 100% for sure what converts better for your site / audience.
I don't assume anything it's really just science. There's nothing new under the sun here this is the same old stuff used for years now and it still works. Sure you can fine tune and find exactly what works for you and your particular marketing style, but I'm not talking rocket science here for some big corporation I'm talking to the little guy under a mil just getting started.

I also disagree with you on good content, sales copy and product. It all depends on who you are marketing too.

Say I'm marketing a song it doesn't have to be good, nor does the sales copy have to be good and the product well lets say it sucks. The song is not good and the singer sucks, because I'm marketing to people who think they sound better than that singer. In other words marketing all depends on what you are trying to do, who you are trying to reach.

Open your own eyes and look at the every day WSO most of your best products get glossed over for inferior products. Why? because the sellers understand the psychology or just got lucky with it.

Study promotion, marketing, retail and psychology and it will make your so called testing and sales go a whole lot better.

CTA button color as well as color of button text, button size and button design will all impact your conversions.

However, if you are choosing a CTA button color based on popularity or because someone told you it was working well for them you wouldn't be doing yourself any favors without first testing these variables on your own site/offer.

These variables CAN and DO make a "REAL impact", are definitely NOT "pointless" and can increase your conversions significantly.

I think orange or yellow is a good color to get people to buy. That is the colors Amazon uses as well.

    Women love the color red.

One of my mentors has studied psychology or something and told me that red works really well on women and most of the people who are looking to work at home and make money online are women who want to stay at home with their kids.

I think the colors should correlate to the look and feel of your website. As some others i also think that does not make someone buy, but i do think that it is important. Many little things need to be in place to make a conversion happen...
    All the best!
