ARPReach and Amazon Ses HELP!

So I am mailing out through my own self-hosted email server. Now using Arpreach.

Yet, for some reason it shows the bounces on all mailings as ZERO

But I have bounce handling setup through amazon ses to send me an email at my bounce email address that Arpreach is supposed to read through the incoming mail server.

There are PLENTY of emails in the bounce email. When I test arp reach to scan the email and delete.. everything works fine.

SO why am I still showing ZERO bounces in arpreach stats and potentially mailing the same bounces again (BIG NO NO when using smtp)

I have sent a support ticket and don't have a clear answer yet.

I figured I would try ol' faithful here with warrior forum because I know plenty of you have switched to self-hosted with all the shenanigans with aweber and getresponse going down lately

HELP!!! anyone fix this problem can advise?

Does it have anything to do with the custom strings you put in the incoming mail server?

If you are using WordPress, I can highly recommend RapidMailer by Sean Donahoe. Reach is a very good program but it takes a marketer to come up with a solution for marketers. Hope this helps.

It's funny you say that man!

I have been WANTING to buy that ever since it came out. I was just telling a friend that EXACT same argument!

A tool for marketers that is made by a marketer ... so it has EVERYTHING we would need.

I have watched the demo several times and it has everything I could want in a self-hosted email solution.

You know what has kept me from actually buying it?

*disclaimer - Nothing against Sean Donahue personally at all*

It is made by a marketer............ pretty much.

I started to look back over all the softwares I have purchased from "marketers" over the past few years.. and ya know... about 80% don't work anymore!

Marketers (in general) are... well.. marketers. They are NOT in the software business.

So they are typically focused on the next product launch and the next and the next.. rather than on developing and enhancing their existing software.

They do the whole big launch... and then it's gone!

With something as important as my email list.. and something that is updated almost weekly like the forever changing wordpress.... I cant trust that with someone's business where making the software comes second to having a "successful" launch.

Sean has been around for awhile and I would be money he already is working on a completely unrelated next product launch (joking..... mostly. speculating of course)

Again I say.. the product and features look amazing.

Can't help but wonder where it will be 6 months from now.

Do YOU own any now obsolete software/plugins you have purchased here?

      hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Point taken. The main thing is that you can correspond with your list. If I could do it using homing pigeons at .001 cents per email and guaranteed 99% delivery, I'd be up for it. Except no such service exists!

Seriously though I've spent literally tens of thousands of $$$ on software that is basically now useless. But I have also bought stuff several years back that is still being updated today (mainly because it was good in the first place - evergreen) and you know as well as I do, that we could spend hours on end talking about it. So here's one more suggestion. I've used it before and there is a handy little plugin that automatically adds blog subscribers to you list. It works fine but I haven't used it for a while.

Email marketing software - php/mysql automatic responder script to send unlimited follow ups (drip email) and email newsletters!

        * I only purchase product from reputable developers, having said that, the criteria of which is subjective.

The other alternative is to get something made and use that.

No need to invest in RapidMailer. Just use MailPoet for free (up to 2000 subscribers) or invest in MyMail ($39 one time). Both of these plugins are heavily updated and maintained all the time and provide the same features as RapidMailer.

WordPress - MyMail - Email Newsletter Plugin for WordPress | CodeCanyon
MailPoet - A newsletter plugin for WordPress

Unfortunately, I can't really help with ARPReach. It definitely sounds like a bug or improper setup. Check the directory of your ARP installation for an error_log to help find the problem.

    According to ARPreach team:

My question: So does this mean that if I've set up Amazon SES ... and I set Options/Advanced (Bounce) to Local... that Arpreach is able to get the bounce data from SES and handle it correctly?

Their reply: Yes, so long as your Incoming email setting is working and you’ve set up your Amazon SES to route bounces to the mailbox indicated there.

    My commentary...

Regardless of what they say, I never did get this working with ARPreach.

Bounce handling works brilliantly with Amazon SES & Sendy... but Sendy is really full featured enough for most of us (I'll be departing it when I find something else.)
