I think this fits the best here.

I need the advice of the wonderful warrior forum as you guys have yet to steer me in a wrong direction, of course after my own due diligence.

I recently had a client approach me about selling his casino niche website that seems to get almost no traffic. While just doing some research I noticed the the potential keywords(at a glance) seem to be pretty good.

The problem I have is that in my experience when keywords seem that good, in large quantities such as this one, it usually is one of those too good to be true moments and not worth it.
Looking at the results in Google makes me wonder even more if this niche is possible as the sites currently ranked for the keywords are pretty close to the site my client owns.

So basically what I am wondering is if there is a reason I am getting a bad feeling about this niche (Casino) while I'm considering purchasing his site instead of selling it for him.

Anyone have any experience in this niche?

Thanks

You, like many, including me, will get a bad feeling when looking into any competitive niche. With that said, if the site is already built and has no traffic. If the site is easily navigated by the visitor and you believe the site looks good, then why not buy it and give it a go.

Like you said, "casino niche website that seems to get almost no traffic" if that is the case then you should get it for a really good price.

So where are you going to be getting your traffic from?

      PPC is out.

      Adsense is out.

SEO and content creation in a gambling niche is most likely way to slow.... if it even works at all.

About all that's left is banner ads on relevant 'gambling' sites

The gambling niche is a hard hard niche....

I have dabbled and done ok in it but its a slog and there is easier money to be made in other niches!

    Thank you guys

@Glen I noticed the lack of ads, one reason I wanted to ask this question.
I didn't occur to me that they weren't even allowed

I think I will pass on this one, this seems more like a with hard work and patience MAYBE I'll make my money back...no thanks.
I think my client got ripped off tho.

    Thank you again gentlemen

    Andromeda,

Just to be clear, what you are calling the "casino niche" is not really a niche at all. Niches aren't places like a casino. And that confusion may be leading to some of your uncertainty about what you're doing.

The audience that you're going after is gamblers and you should be thinking about carving out a niche within the gambling community that you can monetize.

As others have said, this is a very competitive field where big budgets rule and cash drives the major players. Are you prepared to ante-up?

A second challenge with gambling-related sites is that many folks online who run businesses won't accept gambling sites in their directories, as advertisers, and partners. Some consider gambling right up there with porn purveyors, ponzi schemes, and other dubious or questionable entertainment practices. That, to me, seems to be a strike against you right from the get-go.

In order to know how to get traffic, which the site owner apparently has not figured out yet, you will want to know what methods and tactics he is currently employing, what his ad budget is, and where he has been deploying his resources. Only then will you be able to assess if his meager traffic history can be turned around.

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

      Thanks for your response.

There isn't really confusion and I was using "casino niche" as more of a generalization, the keywords I was looking at for the site are much more narrowed down and falls into specific games and the online sector of casino games, I just didn't see it necessary to go into great detail on here as I had a feeling that this wouldn't be an easy site to monetize.

This guy approached me to sell his site for a commission, unfortunately it has little traffic, I thought about picking it up myself but effectively changed my mind after hearing from some of you guys. In fact, him selling it was another red flag in my book since its a pretty well built site, but not at all worth what he originally paid.

      Thanks everyone.

I've had some good success in the 'lotto' niche.

It's a lot easier that the typical gambling niches like 'blackjack, 'roulette' or poker

Still the same problem with advertising though

It's a profitable niche for sure. Some sites offer lifetime commission on every deposit the gambler makes win or lose.

    Gamblers never quit.

There's always a tempting new offer / casino / game for them to suck them back in.

I know some guys in the niche and they make BIG money.

    Is it difficult?

Sure but not so much more so than any other niche IMO.

If this site you are being offered has no traffic then it's not really worth anything to you.

It doesn't matter what keywords he uses on his sites if he doesn't rank for those keywords and possibly never will.

Gamblers do quit ... I saw some Casinos that had to fire workers because of lower gambling traffic.
