Idea Advice - The Best In Your Town

Hi All,

Long time lurker, first post.

I was hoping someone could review my idea, and give me any tips or ideas in relation to my concept. I'm keen to take action, but have now reached the point where I need to stop reading previous threads and ask for a bit more help!

Once I've made that first $ hopefully I can kick on and attract some of the success of the posters here, and actually have 100% faith in myself to make the right calls.

I have snapped up multiple domains, all in the form of best(service name)in(my town).com - best hairdresser, best electrician - you get the picture, and have parked a for sale page on each of these.

My concept was then to contact local businesses and offer to sell a redirect to their already existing website (or add an extra to build their website, depending) for a subscription fee.

Can anyone pick holes in this? Could I sell the domain as is or do I need to hit it with some SEO first to make it rank? Or would businesses already be attracted by the name. I don't mind this expenditure being an educational experience if not a good plan.

Apologies if stupid questions, but I like the idea, but want to make it effective.

You should rank the site for sure which reason should the business owners else have to pay you money. I'm starting with this as well and the first thing you have to do is getting the page on the first site of google. Best is of course in the first spot. Always try to rank for different keywords with one site. This way you can rent out different pages with a little review about the business to different business owners.

Call the owners up or sent them a mail and show them your results. Just having an attracting domain name won't be enough.

Thanks for the advice. I'll carry on with the research.. it seems like a decent passive income to fund other bigger more ambitious ideas.

Please do carry on with your research. This is just ONE opinion, OK?

You are going to put in a LOT of work on this project for very little return, and what passive income are you seeing?

OK, how do you contact the "best" plumber (for example) in town? What do you show him? How does he rank on local searches for plumbers? Where is he on the Google Map of plumbers?

How much do you charge? Are you thinking a monthly fee or are you just going to sell him the domain? HOW many of these best sites can you build?

This is NOT a new idea, and perhaps, there have been a couple of people who have had success, and hopefully, they will chime in with some facts and figures. I've known several people who have tried this, all have failed because of the "BOG DOWN" factor. It ate their time up. But, again, you should find someone with verifiable success doing this, and ask or hire him to help you out, otherwise, you'll be back in 90 days with another idea.

Do the hard work NOW. And that is thinking it through.

PS. Good on you for having an idea and acting on it.

Huge thank you for the above two posts, extremely informative.

I'm keen to take action and am brainstorming ideas, but haven't quite got the complete knowledge, so advice from people is invaluable.

The flaws in this plan are now a lot more obvious, I will continue to research but will consider other ideas. Respect
