has anyone tested using feedburner as a way to collect emails?

Its a double opt in system.

Does anyone have any experience both negative and positive?

I haven't tried it personally, as whilst it's possible to use for this purpose - it's original design if for RSS feed syndication and analytics.

Whilst it is free, you miss out on a lot of important email management features you would get from a 'real' email provider (such as Aweber, GetResponse, MailChimp, etc).

My other major concern would be that many people believe Feedburner won't be around for much longer. Google hasn't developed it much/at all for ages, they turned off the API for it years ago and more recently they closed down Google Reader which indicates they've lost interest in RSS related products.

I'm sure others have good things to say about it - but just thought I'd let you know my thoughts!

i was trying to do some integration with a CMS system and a free template. The template wouldn't allow me to integrate get response with it, without some advanced coding skills, that i don't have.

My only real concern is the double opt in. Although feed burner allows you to collect emails, I've researched allot that double opt in's aren't good. If there was a way to edit the double opt in pop up window with a custom message, i would use it all the time. But unfortunately i couldn't find anything on it.

I will have to do more research later.

In regards to feed burners still being around. I don't think they will go anywhere. I know allot of traders use live feed burners for info. And i know that it is widely used in 2nd and 3rd tier countries.

I think Feedburner`s main value would be to complete newbies or for people who don`t yet have the budget to pay for an auto-responder such as Aweber.

Like with any other free service, it could disappear at any time... and then you are left with nothing.

The money's in the list, so it IS the most important thing. Feedburner isn't as flexible as an autoresponder.

I hope Feedburner is around. I just purchased a WSO where that product is integrated with Feedburner.

Sorry if I scared anyone with talk of Feedburner closing - there's nothing official about this. If you search on "feedburner shut down" you'll find several articles from people thinking it is inevitable. But having said that - these concerns have been going on for a couple of years and it's still here!

Anyhow, the main issue is that it isn't a fully-featured email service provider - so I would only recommend using it if you have no other alternative.

Yes most definitely. I was thinking about just using it with this template i'm using and then what ever i collect, just put them into my autoresponder.

Hi all! SlicedGenius is correct in that there is a lot of talk about Feedburner going away and Google no longer supporting its customers. I don't believe anyone knows what's in store for Feedburner, but there are options to migrate that won't cost you your subscribers AND have fantastic advantages. Check out the link below to Feedblitz. There's a free guide and information. Feedblitz is a client of ours and is the only all-in-one service combining email marketing, social media and RSS feed management.

I am using feedburner for many years now as a blog email subscription option, and it works fine.

    The pros:

    1. Free email marketing
    2. Great delivery rates
    3. Trusted option
    4. Double optin

    The cons:

    1. Double optin! Makes a lot of people stay un-confirmed
    2. I can send only the posts I have wrote publicly on my blog
    3. No-Autoresponder
    4. No-Broadcasts (see #2)
    5. No analytics (other than how many people are sub'd)

This can be a start of a beginner in email marketing. And you can also export the list of people and paste them on your new auto-responder system.

That's it! If you need some more tips, you can read my article on how I have used feedburner to deliver a free ebook: How to Offer an Ebook Download Using Feedburner - BlogKori

      Spot on with this post.

Feedburner is not an AUTO-responder service, it's a RSS feed distribution service which sends an email to your subscribers featuring your last Blog post.

So there are no options to use it in a way you can use an AR like list segmentation, Privately Broadcasting, List Sharing, scheduled AR sequence setup etc...

BUT, it's better you use this one than nothing as you can export your leads later on and upload those into a real AR like AWeber etc. if you feel fine within a niche and decide to go Pro.
