This is an IM forum so quite obviously all people combined are probably buying thousands of domains every day.

I wanted you guys to take a look at the below mentioned stats and make an informed choice the next time you buy a domain. This could save you some money.

From my regular interaction with wannabe IMers I've found the most popular domain registrars are godaddy, name.com, namecheap and bigrock. Of course there are others, but my stats are on these four biggies.

Stats:

domain name - hhweffccfkkwe.com (something random)

Site - Name.com

Price - $10.99

----------
domain name - hhweffccfkkwe.com

Registrar - Godaddy.com

Price - $9.66 (was being offered some kinda discount)

-------------

domain name - hhweffccfkkwe.com

Registrar - Bigrock

Price - $10.99
------------------------------

domain name - hhweffccfkkwe.com

Registrar - Namecheap

Price - $10.99
----------------------------------------------

Now I there's another registrar that offers the same domain for $8.99. Domain privacy is free for a year.

Name of registrar - Namesilo

P.S - I'm not affiliated to any one of them.

Will have to check that out. How much do they charge for .com domains?

If I am not in a rush I normally wait for Godaddy to do a promotion like $1.99.

If you are not in a rush you definitely have a lot of options, but that's not always the case with everyone.especially those that buy domains by the dozen every week for themselves and clients.

There's no need to pay $10 for a domain. Right now as we speak Godaddy is running a $.99 campaign for dot coms.

You don't have to wait for specials, you can always find substantial discounts because the registrars want to hook you for a lifetime and sell you backend services. Domains are a loss leader in many ways.

Op, how about also adding what subsequent year's registration will cost?
The leader now may not look so hot down the road, especially if you need whois privacy.

When I ran this check whois privacy was free. That's the reason why it looked lucrative.

    Also, this long-going thread:

    https://www.namepros.com/577802-goda...codes-694.html

is where folks share lots of discount coupons.

    Hope that helps!

Searching for special discounts (you find them by Googling), buying in bulk (often just 5 domains or more at a time), and using promo codes is the way to go. It's easy to find deals online every day of the week. This is a very competitive business and discounting is everywhere.

If you just pick out a registrar and pay what they are asking, you are going to spend waaaaay more than you need to.

As others have said, it's pretty easy to purchase domains at most any time for under $5 each.

Thats right Steve. Also its possible to get completely free 1 year renewal by offering referring friends to most registrars.

I use namecheap and I like the service, Buying a Domain is one of the least expensive items I purchase, even if I were to get 10 per year it would be less that $150.00 per year. Unless you are buying domains by the hundred, I would suggest using the registrar that you like and I like Namecheap

I would rather just use namecheap and pay a whatever they charge. It is not worth it for me to spread my domains around and learn a new registars system to save a few cents.

      Boy, how times change...

I bought my first domain back in 1996. The cost was $35/yr with a two year minimum.

Now folks are bitching about paying $10.

So much for the "good old days"...

No one is "bitching" John. Its just that the domain business is competitive and registrars are offering huge benefits to buyers to remain in the competition. Why not take the goodies when you are entitled to them?

You probably wouldn't buy a $35 domain now, would you? Competition is healthy both for buyers and sellers and that's what this is about.

Okay, maybe "bitching" wasn't the perfect word.

It just struck me that something could go down that much in price, and people coming into the game think it's too expensive.

If I had to worry about more than a handful of domains, I'd look for discounts, too.

Like pizza joints, I do wonder sometimes why some registrars seem to do fine without constant coupons while others live and die by them.

Usually - if you just Google GoDaddy - they are advertising .99c domains.

Even if you already have an account with them the discount will usually apply. One a day I think.

It's just for the first year but still a nice bonus.

They have started with WP hosting and cPanel now too. They were offering the hosting for $1.99/mo with affiliate link.

If you don't find the offers easily let me know and I'll post a download sheet with discount links for you.

They have a really cool bulk domain search too so you can run over a hundred keyword combinations to see if your domain is available.
