Emailing Prospects (Strategies & Software)

What software or online service would you recommend to use when blasting emails to potential prospects? I thought Ad-Weber or Mail Chimp worked that way, but now I understand the way it works is you import a list of prospects who have already decided to subscribe.

What I’m simply doing is purchasing data from (Data.com) in the category based closely to my business. I just want to send out emails advertising my services and offer the opt-out feature to make sure I meet CAN-SPAM regulations.

Does anyone have any good suggestions or strategies? Thank You.

Ouch You made your first mistake with your opening sentence.

You shouldn't "blast" emails. You need to be incredibly careful these days email marketing. Make sure you comply with the CAN-SPAM Rules.

Also, I would recommend you use Aweber for the "software".

You can try software such as Atomic email sender - You'd need access to SMTP server for sending mails. With this method, you don't have to pay anything to the mail services like aweber or mailchimp

Rather than blasting emails to purchased data, you may think about reaching out and actually creating relationships with these people. At least that's how I approach it. Not saying I don't broadcast, because I do... But, only if they opt in to my list.

Wow. An email blast. Well... you could find a free one. Or not do this at all. There are other more streamlined ways to get targeted people to sign up to your list and market to them.

I apologize for using that word. Let me elaborate, my website is a free service to the city I live in. Currently, I'd like to create ways to attract people to check out the site, but without spamming them.

I purchased data thinking that I can email to them and see if they're interested, but I may be mistaken. So when you purchase data online from a vendor, Does one need to contact them internally prior to sending out direct mail piece or emailing them?

This is what confuses me, and out of respect of course I want to make sure I do it the most proper way. Thank You.

In order to comply with CanSpam, please make sure:
    1. Your subject line "matches" the body of your email. (In other words, you cannot write "win a car!" If that's not what you are offering)
    2. You must include a physical mailing address (you can put it in fine print at the bottom)
    3. You must tell people how they can opt out - and make it easy!
    4. If someone opts out, take them off your list and put them on your DNE (do not email list). Literally keep a list of every person who asks to be removed from your list.

I hope this helps. One more thing that is just a personal pet peeve of mine.... If you meet someone when you are out and about at a meeting or something, do not add them to your list! It's really a low class move.

    All the best to you!

data.com provides lists which have allowed data to sell their information to a 3. party, so there shouldn't be any violation in sending them email, just be sure that they can opt out of you list.

I've heard good things about a program called (I believe) WorldMerge. Couple that with a mailing service like Amazon's SES for the initial contact. Follow the rules, and you should be fine.

From a more practical standpoint, I'd look at these emails the same way one would look at a postcard mailing - the object isn't to sell directly most of the time. The object is to get people to raise their hands and indicate interest.

Don't promote the service. Promote the benefit of using the service, with the added information of a website where they can get this benefit without charge.

One thing you want to check, though. Did you actually buy the data, or did you get a one-time list rental? Makes a difference in what you can do...

I'm glad this came up because I've been looking for the same thing. My approach now is sending very personalized emails targeted to businesses who can use my services. It's VERY time consuming. And as we all know, time is money in this business.
