Starting a blog Question

Hey, so Im starting fresh building a mailing list and targeting specific niche which is internet marketing "How to make money online" I wanted to start a blog some quick questions should the blog be my name for example johnsmith.com or would it be better to have an action word or something more related to internet marketing? If so what are some ideas !! Kind of new to this but want to start one asap because its essential on building a good brand.

    You answered your own question already! Branding is important and I would personally always go with my own name. I for example choose my name to brand it and also an slogan.

    Check if your name is still available because if you have a name like john smith it might be gone long time ago than you have to chose something related to IM.

      I already purchased my domain. I might just stick with that more simple.. I just need to find an effective blog template.. Any suggestions ?

        Hi there,
        As you can see there are two different thoughts on this but one thing to mention here if you do build a brand under your own name you will not be able to sell it as easily as if you used a generic name. Just in case that becomes an option down the track
        I have branded myself under my own name but also have another blog called get internet marketing smart. Same theme different branding

    Involve a spammy sounding and cheap domain with the words 'make money online' or similar in it for sure.

    It is not important. Sure, look for something to brand. It can be your name, it van be a blog name.
    Look at socialtriggers blog - huge success
    Look at problogger - mega success
    Look at zenhabits - tornado success

    What is important - find your USP, narrow down, like Tamal Anwar just suggested, provide great value and market, market, market

    You can brand you, or a neat make money online name...I chose cashwithatrueconscience, because I intended to share karmic tips to help folks make money online....in either case, brand yourself like mad through your blog, with pictures, videos, etc....and write like crazy to find your voice.

    Although the domain name is important, it is not the end all do all for marketing. What is key here is the content! In other words, you can use your name, your mom's name, even a branded keyword domain. Just ensure the content is up to par. Take a look at funny sounding insurance company names, design firms and other alike. Some do not have a keyword within their name, but still carry a lot of weight in gold for their industry keywords

    You can also brand the site with a pen name. Then if it's sold they can buy the name as well.
