How to find the right mentor?

Hey warriors, been a while but I have a quick question about mentors. As your aware im a newbie in this industry, however I feel im learning more each day. One recommendation was to aquire a knowledgeable mentor who has a proven track record. As someone who looking to make this my next career and in this for the long term I was wondering the following.....


Where would one find one?

What would be the cost?

Is there anything I need to consider when choosing?

Is there anything i need to be careful of?

And finally any recommendations?

    1. Find someone who is already achieving the results you want. Try and stay away from those who are advertising coaching programs or mentor programs. Usually they are making most of their money from that coaching and not the methods they will be teaching you. Kind of ironic, huh?

    2. Be prepared to pay what someone is worth. Obviously the cost will depend heavily on who the person is and how much they value their time. This is definitely a case where you get what you pay for so don't focus on the money, focus on what you are going to get in return for that investment.

      If you wanted to get to a wedding on time, would you just guess and use trial and error the find the wedding venue? Or would you do the smart thing and go and buy a street directory and find the most direct way there?

      If someone wants to succeed there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting a good mentor. The amount of time and money a good mentor can save you is phenomenal.

      Even the best businessmen and sports people in the world have mentors and coaches. That should tell you something.

      This is your business. If you value it, when the time is right (and the time becomes right WHEN you choose to value it), you can justify spending money for a mentor.

      Mentors cut thru the BS quickly and effectively. I joined Ben Adkins Syndicate back in early 2012 - hugely valuable (it's now Digital Products Creation). I then opted in for one-on-one training at double the price in 2013.

      Can you learn on your own? Certainly you can. For the basics, I did myself. However, when I wanted to take things to the next level (ie, do 5 figures a month instead of 4), it was finding the right mentor that worked for *me* that did the ticket.

      So. How do you do that?

      Well, first, you have to ensure your personality meshes well. Don't join a program if you do not appreciate the leader nor if you cannot do what said leader advocates.

      If you're shy and you WANT to break out of that, choose a mentor who will push you into uncomfortable situations so you grow.

      If you're shy and content to stay shy, find a mentor who flies under the radar.

      Next, you commit to yourself that this is a business investment for your future and your profits. You don't let scarcity thinking drive your decision process.

      Next, you research the mentor's reputation online. This is your business - you have ownership on who you end up choosing. An educated consumer really is the best customer.... so make sure you educate yourself as much as possible.

      I personally have paid over 14K last year for different aspects of coaching services. Some worked, some did not, but in ALL cases the successes/failures lie directly with *me*.

      Mentors can only open doors for you. You must choose to walk thru them.

        While the responses here are valid they all have one thing in common, "Taking it to the next level"

        Like you said yourself, you are a new to Internet Marketing, so it is my opinion if you got a mentor now you would be spending a lot of money learning the basics, "You have to walk before you can run". You should learn the basics first, on your own.

        Before I get a Mentor, I would probably join the warroom, the warroom is full of free WSO's and How-to's, do a lot of reading here, Try diffent things and really focus on the direction you want your business to go, then get a mentor to take to the next level

        Totally agree with you. I was a student of one of the most successful Internet Marketer, but my results are nothing to show. The reason is that I tend to procrastinate and not take action. Having a mentor to push you will certainly helped to achieve your goals faster.

        At one point in time, I was also thinking of getting a mentor or join one of those mastermind groups. What stopped me was the initial fee I had to pay, plus I live in different time zone and I had to juggle with a full time job. I just did not have the guts to quit my current job and work on IM full time.

    I personally found a mentor who gave me everything I needed up front for nothing as far as training and applicable information.

    I still ask him questions from time to time and he's became more of a friend as I came into my own.

    People asking for money up front to guide you ARE probably making money mainly form that. It's the ones who are providing value without the need for payment that are successful enough to give you that for nothing.

    Find someone with a simmilar story or background as you, so you can share the same perspective.

    i'm a high school dropout who started with nothing, so learning from Donald trump would do me much good.

    2. Make sure they are currently living the life you want to live, and are currently doing what you want to do.. Not years ago....

    Thanks for all the advice. I will start on my own and learn the basics. I have been reading a lot and made a lot notes. Im about to finish chris farrell course and designing the website. I got aweber and I found a niche. Only problem is how do I effectively build the list? Im only looking to make 150 dollers a day, so any suggestions would be great.

        Hey Aaron0669,

        Is it worth it? Yes

        Is it easy to understand? Yes

        Does it cost? Yes but it a worthy investment. Its best to look at it as your investing in your career and its really small change to what you could be making.

        So whats involved? Lots of video walkthrough. Most of them last for about 6 - 8 mins long. You then have some practical work but it explained in such a way that anyone can do it.

        I suggest reading Newbie to Millionaire. Its a great insight into the industry plus it gives you some great advice

    Even though there are good mentors online, some of the things that works really well for them may not work as well for their students.

    Yes, you have to find a good mentor but you have to realize that not everything that they teach works in today's world on internet marketing.

    You have to test things out and see what works best for YOU.
