If you're not hurting our suffering, you are not going to grow. You only hurt When you know you are capable of having something you don't yet have. So many people give up when they hit the wall, because it hurts too much. They turn around and go the other way but would it not realizing is best is a mechanism in the mind to let you know that you have the opportunity to become something greater to become something more. Never give up. Do you agree? Clint |

I agree. People who aren't making anything yet jump from one method to another to another ebook to another course way too fast. They're only partly to blame as they're inundated with "the cure for cancer" every day in their inbox. If they would just stick with something for more then 10 minutes, those JV spamming gurus would be out of business. |

I began trying to make money online nearly 4 years ago. Year 1 was painful and expensive ($6,000 in the red). Year 2 was the break-through year into profitability. Many peaks and valleys that year and others. 2009 has been another break-through year! ![]() I was just thinking the other day that I need to start referring to myself as the "Thomas Edison of Internet Marketing". It is said Edison tried over 6,000 times looking for the right filament for his light bulb. It felt like I had failed at it 6,000 times before I had success. The number of my failures is actually small in comparison. One of Edison's most famous qualities was his perseverance and that is what determined my success online and in many other aspects of my life. So my words of wisdom are: Be persistent... Each time you fail, you get one step closer to success. Time to run! To your success, John ps - Time will pass whether you do something or not. Why not make it count. Feeling overwhelmed? Break it down into managable chunks. You can eat an elephant if you do it one bite at a time.

Giving up GUARANTEES failure. I think I once heard that allegedly Muhammad Ali (the famous boxer) once said (something like) "it doesn't matter that you got knocked down 67 times, what matters is that you get up that 68th time...). Of course, a good strategy, and an ability to know the difference between a totally lost cause and something simply requiring more efforts and/or tweaks to the strategy is helpful too! Best, David |

I have a couple of observations. One, this discussion might be better suited for the Mind Warriors section. Yes, I certainly agree with not giving up. No, I can't agree with this. I think it depends. It depends on a person's personality, predispositions, level of maturity, life experience, and other factors. I think some folks may only grow via suffering while others find a different path. This reminds me of something said by Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science. (I'm not a Christian Scientist, by the way, but I have some familiarity with her writings.) She said it's "suffering or Science." Here's a passage from a website about Christian Science that explains it better than I could: Quote:
I think that in place of "God" and "divine Truth" you can substitute any positive change in one's life. And for "Science" you can substitute any number of life-changing techniques, including meditation, NLP, hypnosis, psychotherapy, positive thinking... The list goes on and on. Yes, some of these things actually work for some people. So no, it's not always pain and suffering.

but I have to agree that most people jump from one method to another without putting in the time or effort. Its like looking for that elusive get rich quick scheme or spending all day making a to do list but never actually doing anything!!!

This thread can get deep in a hurry. Never give up, - sure, however all to often the new opportunity doesn't have much chance for success to begin with. And also even though one entrepreneur can make a program "fly" what about those who he recruits? I know, - that is part of the 95% failure rate also... It is best to study a new business opportunity for a week and use all the due diligence possible, - before joining or not! diger - |

if there wasnt that failure hurdle to overcome, everyone in the world would be an internet marketer. In fact, I am quite thankful that the barrier is there - keeps other people from jumping into the competition |

Yes!!! never give up, but if you keep hitting the wall, maybe its time to change direction. because theres really no point in hitting the wall over and over. you know what i mean. if its not working, then re assess what you are doing and make changes.:-) |

Warning: Small rant ahead... I know tons of newbies come here regularly and need this advice, so I might get flamed for this, but.... It irks me a little when a thread is started about something as basic as "Don't give ever give up!" and presented as something new and exciting. Grrrr! Anybody who's been around the business world in any shape or form (even newbies just starting to investigate work-from-home biz op junk) has heard this. And they probably heard it from their mother, BEFORE that! (Or at least from a school teacher or the last self-help book or seminar they attended.) Rant over. With that said, I would say that the "Don't give up!" advice is only part of the equation. Continually trying to succeed in an area without the proper plan, tools, guidance, etc. with a "Never give up!" attitude is frustrating in the extreme and leads to failure. The other half of the equation is a realistic step-by-step plan to achieve what you want, complete with the proper tools and a vetted coach or mentor. One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard (from one of MY mentors) is "Pick ONE (or two) mentors/coaches who are successful in the areas in which you'd like to succeed and copy them. Shut out everyone else and focus on what they're teaching you -- and DO it." Follow their plan (including their recommendations) and THEN don't give up. As PPC Coach said, people tend to jump from one thing to another without ever sticking to one thing long enough to see it succeed. (And I'm just as guilty as the next person in doing that.) In my case, I have about 4 people I follow, but one of them is my first choice and I follow her very, very closely. She has a complete plan and lives the lifestyle I'd like to have. She's also the kind of person I'd like to be. I haven't been able to afford her personal one-on-one coaching, but that hasn't stopped me from learning from her. I buy her products and am in her lower-level coaching club. And I follow HER plan. So the success equation (and at least ONE definition of success) is: A clearly-defined, SPECIFIC plan + FOCUS (i.e. "Never give up!) = Success I personally experienced this several years ago when I (finally!) got a job, paid off all of my credit card debt and bought my first car. I was absolutely driven by my twin goals of being debt-free and buying that car. I had a clearly defined, very specific plan for paying off my debt and an equally clear, specific plan for buying that car. NOTHING came before that. You could say I had tunnel vision at that point in my life. And I was never so successful at anything in my life. It was my first big accomplishment and it still stands out as a high point in my life. Clarity and specificity are extremely important to your success. "Clarity attracts money." my mentor told me. (And she's a multi-millionaire so she should know.) Hope that helps! Michelle |

I totally agree... Perseverance is not only needed in online business models, it's needed to anything that can lead to your dreams/goals. I have thought of given up so many times and I do think we all come to this moment when we want to stop everything and just settle down with a regular job. But thank goodness I have never really quit and I'm always making effort to make things work out for the best, luckily it is slowing setting up for me, and even thus I'm far away of making a living online like many of the fellow warriors, I still have made enough to help pay some bills. If you give up, you'll never know how far you can go. |

I agree 100%. I personally feel that this is like running a marathon. As long as we do not give up, we will still be able to finish the marathon even if we progress very slowly. Persistence is the key ![]() Zack |

Most newbie will kind of "lost" in the internet marketing world, as there are so many ways one can use to earn an online income, example from adsense, affiliate marketing and pay per click marketing......Sometime newbies do not know which method suit them, the trial and error process really drive them to hit the wall. Never give up hope is the keyword here. Next a proper plan to work on is a must, if one try on adsense and do not earn much, move on with other method in a agreed upon allocated time. Concentrate to work on a listing or sales project in allocated time and measure the end results. If improvement is not good enough, check if one have put enough time to bring result or not, example don't expect to earn lot of money by this working less than 10 mins a day. What one effort is what one will get. Once again, don't keep up hope. |

| IMHO, part of not giving up is the ability to recognize when you are flogging a dead horse and go about finding another horse. Just make sure that horse is dead, too many get up and start running as soon as you turn your back. I think a balance is needed here. Many success stories include taking another path when the original path hits a wall. |

yeah I hear you. I went around and around for a long freakin time! Lance Armstrong said: Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.” That sums it up for me! |
