Ex car salesman's car buyers guide - Input and suggestions wanted

Hi guys.

I have sold cars for a long time, and am creating an online product using my insider knowledge of the industry and dealerships to really help buyers navigate the car buying process and truly get the best deal.

What do you think are the biggest annoyances of dealerships/ the car buying process, or things that you would find valuable to know from an insider?

I have a list of topics from my perspective that include things like

- Understanding dealer holdback
- How car sales people are paid
- Car sales tactics
- Margins on new and used vehicles
- How to get the best price
- How to get dealers to compete
- How to negotiate effectively
- Moves that drive car salesman crazy
- Guide to warranties and additional products - what is worth the money and what isn't

and more

What do you guys thing could be valuable to know as car consumers?

Great idea. There's also a big market for used cars and how to buy a good one. I would suggest to create a guide for buying new cars AND a guide for buying used cars, and then you could also bundle them...

That way you'll attract both new car buyers and used car buyers more effectively.

Sounds awesome to be honest, there are many people out there who want to buy and sell cars whether old or new so it's a good market.

I wouldn't buy it. All of this info is available for free online. I litterly found articles on everything you listed within 3 minutes (3 minutes total for all of them) using Google. Of course people are going to chime here what a great idea it is. Because thats what people on the Warrior forum do. But really unless your offering something NO ONE ELSE offers your just wasting your time.

Maybe you wouldn't, but a lot of people would.

Not so much because they couldn't find articles on Google, but because there's getting to be a serious trust issue with articles found online. Even mainstream advertisers are getting in on the joke, with the "it was on the Internet, so it must be true" ads.

Positioning oneself as an insider, or better yet, a disgruntled ex-insider, works in a lot of fields, from car sales to Disney tickets. It's something that a lot of people can't truthfully offer.

Add in the lure of information tailored to a specific demographic, like those I mentioned, and the results could be very positive.

I do agree, though, that even if you throw out the obvious junk, there is a lot of generic information floating around. Putting out another generic info-product sans USP and targeting would be pretty tough sledding.

I'm also a very experienced ex car salesperson and I have to
disagree with some of the opinions here.

I think you'll find it extremely difficult to monetize a product like this.

I've seen people try this before and they bombed. I'm not sure why
because it sounds like a winner on paper....I guess it must have something
to do with the psychology of car buying.

    Good luck anyway.

Just throwing this out there, but how about a guide for people who want to buy/fix up/sell cars? Seems like those people would be more likely to invest in a 'how to' guide. Note that I know nothing about this market, just an idea I got

        Got to agree there.

THAT could well be a really good product.

        Well thought out Richard

I have to agree. I think people in general will not spend 10 dollars to prevent a 10k problem, when they get the 10K problem especially if it make them look bad or feel uncomfterable, they will gladly spend 10K.

        - Moves that drive car salesman crazy
I'd be interested in that one, purely from a recreational standpoint...

Beyond that, I'd look to niche down from "people buying cars" and get more specific. For example:

        > Parents buying their kids a "school car"

        > Seasonal residents (aka, snowbirds) buying "condo cars" to be used only a few months a year and stored the remainder.

You can use the same general information, but by targeting it to different sub-groups of the buying public, you stand a better chance of attracting attention.

Thank you all for your input. I think it has a good chance of getting attention based on the amount of time that the average car buyer spends online before even visiting a dealership. Were talking like 7-8 solid hours of research! People are more careful with their vehicle purchases than ever.

I feel like I really have a TON of great information to offer. I see ads like "Car Dealers HATE Him" flying around in my head.

I may separate used cars, new cars, and negotiations into separate products and bundle them together.

More input is always appreciated. Anything else you guys ever wanted to know about dealerships / car buying?
