Is there any benefit to pinging a static html (non blog) website?

I mean if I update a conventional html website, is there any benefit to pinging the same ping services?

    No you can ping any page or website. It has more effect if it is a blog though.

    Trouble is, you can't ping a static page unless you've also built an RSS page for it. When a ping service pings a page, it reads the RSS page, and if there isn't an RSS page, well...no ping for you. Why? Because they're actually pinging the RSS page and not your public HTML content page.

    It is possible to ping static HTML pages, though...you just have to have a corresponding RSS page for it.

      Thanks... umm, is it possible to build an RSS feed for a static website?

      is it something that can be edited into the html source code or must it be an external file associated with the html page?

      I'm probably going to get a bunch of "it's static what do you want an RSS feed for it for" replies.... well I change this page all the time and wanted a way to entice google bot to come spider it again.

      and just for the record the site in question is a dynamic page, a single page brochure website (if that sheds any light on my original question)

    Yes you can, but what you need is a separate file, not on your main index. so for example. rss.xml or feed.xml

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?><rss version="0.91">

    is on the top of my xml page, Im pretty sure that version is old or wrong or something but, anyways ; x

    Pingler.com will give pingers a lot more coverage if you're going to be pinger.

    If you're looking to turn static html pages into rss feeds, do a search on rss page makers and you should find a few that can help.

    Hope This Helps!!
