Need some tips improving CTR

Hey fellow warriors. How's it going?
Started email marketing 6 weeks ago. Having good results until now.

I would like to request your help on something that is bothering me for a long time.

I have a nice ~2,500 list with an average 3%-4% open rate and 0.5%-1.2% CTR .

I'm currently promoting free offers on MMO/IM niche.

My goal is to get to an average of 2% CTR and I can't manage to pull it off.
I've tried giving something away free, providing value, tips on IM. But, my CTR will simply not improve.

I would like you to give me some tips on what to write in my emails, what subject lines to use, maybe point me to a WSO/course.

Your help is appreciated,
thanks.

First of all, I am a noob in this subject as well. Do this at your own risk.

There are a certain methodology that you need to follow in order to increase inboxing and CTR. The priority is inboxing first. So if you manage to increase your inbox by another 30%, you probably can accomplish your 2% CTR goal.

    Increase Inboxing:
    1. Test your creative (email) for complaint before you send out. I use Newsletters spam test by mail-tester.com

    2. Then send your creative to a pool of test accounts that you control. Like a survey, they higher the number the better your result will be. Take a look at inboxing rate, soft bounce and hard bounce. Make the necessary changes and retry.

    3. Run your list of 2500 against cleansing service such as hygiene agent. They will remove bad email addresses which contributes to hard bounce and red flag by service provides.

Email marketing is based on trust or reputation. You have to start slow. Once you reputation increases, you can send more and expect to get better inboxing and CTR rate.

If you are not using double-optin, try that. As 30% of the people either provide bad email addresses or they made a typo, this contribute to hard bounce and negatively affect your reputation as well. It's like a seesaw.

Once you've made improvement in your inboxing, they worry about your copywriting. This is another art in itself which will make this response extremely long.

I truly think your issue is with the fundamental (inboxing). Increase it the rest will follow.

You always want to test out different TITLES to see if you can get bigger open rates.

Once you know what is getting you the most opens, then you can test more and more subject lines.

Always test things to see what is getting you the most open rates and click rates.

Test the different days that your list responses best on, also the times of day. If I am sending two emails for one promotion I will send one at one time and then the other one or two days later at another time, usually a couple hours apart.

Sometimes putting the name in the subject helps, sometimes it does not, depending on the list. You should know that too.

If it's about open rate then I would say test subject lines? The following is a tool you can use to determine the effectiveness of your subject line. There are other tools that may do a better job than this but this may be a good place to start. Your target audience also do count. Cop can be tricky, you could also look at having a copywriter write some and the email messages, but at the same time it's worth investing some time to learn it so you can do some of it yourself because you are probably the best person to do it.

        How often are you mailing?

        What "style" are you using?

Are your headlines hitting a button? e.g. shock, curiosity, etc.

          Chris

I'm mailing twice a day. I'm always trying to spike their interest, to feed their curiosity and also point out what's in it for them.
I'm not consistent though, I always try out a different style to see what's working out best

Are you actively building your list with fresh new subscribers? If not it's fairly normal your open rate and CTR will go down. I would advice to simply put all your efforts in actively building your list and making sure you keep split testing your headlines to see what works best.

    Good luck!

Yes I do, I add fresh subs every single day. My CTR didn't go any down, it stays constant around 1%

For a higher CTR you will need both a higher open and a higher click rate. If your list doesn't grow, those 2.500 subscribers will soon be bugged by your messages. You can't expect your CTR to grow when you are sending to the same persons, the same service - even if you try to give it a new wrap.
So you will need to get new subscribers - you know there are lists to be bought over the web - and, also very important, to work on your subject line. You said you're a newbie, so I'm guessing you have little knowledge about spam words that you shouldn't use in your subject lines and mailer body? A certain group of words will flag your mailers as spams, preventing you from inboxing.
It also matters a lot what mail clients your subscribers yous. For instance, gmail is way more harsh in filtering messages than yahoo is.
You might want to consider a paid service for scanning your mailers, such as Litmus or I don't know what else.
