Whoa, that's a lot of money made using a social website! But they already got a known and valued brand so they really didn't need to push too much to make money from twitter.

Guess using the right affiliate coupons and other promotional related tools can work really well if you hit the nail on the head with particular social networking interests in those focused/targeted Specialty niche marketplaces...

Many people overlook Scribd.

As for Twitter - it is already being abused by spammers - only a matter of time before something breaks.

Twitter is a great resource, but they need to get the controls in place now, otherwise it will end up lime the other social networks.

Dell probably makde 3 000 millions dollars profit offline and 6 000 millions dolars profit online and only 3 millions from Twitter, that is not even 0.0005%...

But what business would turn down an easy $3 million a year, plus exposure to a new crowd of customers? And since I use Twitter all of the time, yes, I can say it's dead easy.

That is serious money and just shows that big coporations continue to benefit from new technologies alongside small internet marketeers.

The U.S. military is using Twitter too for publicity purposes to get the word out about different topics they want the public to know about.

If Dell earned that much this means that they will probably eventually have a dedicated full-time Twitter expert to pop out tweets.

I don't find this surprising at all. Twitter is absolutely awesome for marketing. And they have 624,000 followers? If their average ticket is $1,500 that's only making one sale to .3% of their followers. I'd starve with those numbers.
